It is a common practice for people to cross their fingers behind their backs when telling a lie, as seen in the photo above.

According to research, a lot of men lie to women for a number of reasons. Listed below are the categories of common lies men tell women.

Height

A short man might lie about his height, especially if the woman he admires is taller. Some men like to be taller than their spouse. This is a lie that doesn't have to be told because people can see when men are shorter than their mates.

Many famous men are comfortable with their height and do not lie about it. One man who comes to mind and even jokes about his height is actor and comedian Kevin Hart. He is 5′ 4.″ His wife, Eniko, is 5′ 7.″

New anchor George Stephanopoulos is another well-known man who is shorter than his wife. He is 5′ 5″ and his comedian wife, Ali Wentworth, is 5′ 7″ tall.

Actor Tom Holland is 5' 8" while actress and singer Zendaya is 5' 10." The couple became engaged last December.

Three things are apparent:

  • The couples that are pictured are not known to lie about their height. They are comfortable with their taller partners.
  • Some men are known to lie about their height on dating apps.
  • It is more common for some men to lie about their height, but not about their weight.

Being Lost

Men lie about being lost. They usually hate to ask anyone for directions, especially if other passengers are in the car. It is like admitting that they are incompetent. Therefore, men will often drive many miles out of their way because they don't want to stop and ask for directions. It is good that most modern cars have a Global Positioning System (GPS). If men get lost, they will blame it on their GPS.

Automobiles

Men lie about not knowing what is wrong with the vehicle they are driving. They believe that admitting they don't know about car trouble is an admission of being unmanly or inadequate.

Past Relationships

Men lie about their past relationships. Either they up the number to impress their current mate, or they will downplay the number so she won't get jealous. They also lie that they don't mind that their mate had a romantic past.

Sports Ability

While women lie that they like sports when they don't, men lie about how good they are at sports. Some fabricate that they were the team's stars, even if they just sat on the bench during high school or college games.

Being Afraid

Men lie about not being afraid. More men than women are afraid of flying. Instead of admitting they are afraid, men often make up excuses for not flying. They might say, "Let's take a road trip."

Jobs

Some men lie about losing their jobs. There have been stories about men leaving their homes in the morning and going back late in the evening to avoid telling their spouse that they are no longer employed. They hope to find another job before their mate discovers the truth.

Miscellaneous Things Men Lie About

  • Men would rather lie than tell a woman they do not like what she is wearing.
  • Men lie to women about their health. If they are ill, they seldom admit it.

I'm guilty regarding height. I tell people I'm 6 feet tall, but in reality, I'm almost 1/2 inch below that, so I round it up. (I'm sure I was taller in my younger years; I'm 57 now.) When it comes to directions, I don't like to ask for a different reason: I can't remember a long list of turns! I once stopped and asked for directions, and the man said something like, "Turn left at the end of the road, then second right, left after the Red Lion pub, right at the traffic lights..." After he'd finished, I was so overwhelmed that I couldn't even remember the first step. He probably watched me turn the wrong way. 🤣
