What Marriage Taught Me
I went through a lot in my last marriage and, as a result, I learned a lot. One thing I learned was that marriage is not the end all, be all of relationships. If you treat it that way, once you get married you are (for lack of a better word) screwed. You treated marriage as “The End, Happily Ever After” and now you realize life still goes on. You’ve signed a binding legal contract tying you to this person for the foreseeable future and you don’t know what to do. All the stuff y’all dealt with before marriage, you still have to deal with now. The only difference is you can’t simply tell him to pack his stuff and leave and be done with him for good.

Epiphany
The belle of the ball returns home to the same sheets from the same Target down the street as you. She brushes the night frizz from her hair and clips it to the back of her head, just like you. Does she wonder what she did in the recent past to bring on her bad karma at the moment? Or why the best clothes shrink in the dryer the same day you get to wear them out? Who knows? I'll Love You Forever
He stares at me with a newfound love in his eyes as we stand together on the lakeshore. The breeze whips the stray hairs that have fallen from my braids across my face and plasters them to my glossy lips. He smiles at me, bringing a tan hand up to my face to brush the pesky hairs away.
