The Way That I See You
If only you could see yourself the way that I see you. The way that your eyes crinkle and your cheeks crease into dimples when you smile super big. When you laugh so hard you don’t make a sound anymore, just a silent smile that I know you can barely contain. The way you walk as if no one notices you, but really I’m sure the whole room is staring.

What Does Love Look Like?
Love is a bit of a strange topic for me to write about since I have never been "in love" before. Sure, I've had the usual crushes, a date, and rejections, but I don't know what "love" is supposed to look like these days. The world has become confused as to what "love" is; I have never thought it was that icky feeling in one's gut when you stare into someone's eyes, because that feeling is fleeting and love is supposed to last a lifetime. "Love," according to what the media throws our way, is all about the sexual gratification that comes with being with the one you're attracted to. "Love" is about sharing a physically intimate part of one's self with multiple people while withholding the truly intimate part: your inner vulnerability, your past, your dreams, your needs, your life plan, your hidden passions (as in hobbies), etc. After watching so many of my friends and family members settle down over the years, I have made it a point to observe what kind of "love" they have.

What Love Is like After an Emotionally Abusive Relationship
Emotional abuse is never something you think that you'll be a victim of. You think that you will "know the signs" and "never will deal with that" until you are in a romantic relationship with someone who is. You don't take those red flags as bad; he's just "caring" and "protective of his own." He's not. It's abuse that affects you mentally and physically. Unfortunately, this is extremely common, and when you are in it, you don't realize what is going on.

My Journey so Far...
When I was younger, I was told to always follow my dreams no matter how hard they get, but up until I made the steps into university—roughly 150 miles away from my family—I had no idea how hard it would be. When you get to university, you feel the weird sense of freedom while being homesick.

Her Town
I pulled at my coat and zipped it up a little higher and buttoned the last snap near my neck. Ready to go, as per usual, it was 8:00 AM. A rainy morning, music playing through my headphones, and I was already experiencing my second headache of the day. I was frustrated with the late train. A brisk winter day in Georgia, then it starts to rain. I was on my usual route to my class via the MARTA. I was definitely going to be late if this train moved any slower to Midtown or made another unexpected stop on its way.

The Power of Equality
If there was one tagline that I could scream to the masses, it would be that we are in fact ALL EQUAL! Growing up in the Deep South as a quiet, empathic girl of color, I've listened, observed, and unfortunately absorbed many others getting this message wrong.

The Most Common Mistake You Are Making in Your Relationship (And How to Fix It)
The Problem Most relationship problems arise from a lack of communication. It is common knowledge that communication is key to a happy dating relationship. When problems arise, they need to be addressed in a healthy way. It can be a problem as simple as your partner not doing their share of housework. Now, if you are a passive person, you may have a fear of confronting your partner. You don’t want to upset them or start a fight. If you have a more outspoken personality, you may come off as accusing or critical, which almost always leads to conflict.

That Girl Is Perfection
Every day and every night, I tell her that I am not like the past guys that have hurt her. Hell, I tell her I am the real deal, a real man, because that is exactly what a girl as beautiful, special, and smart as her deserves and needs. Please do not think all I do is say I am trying and I will find a way. As soon as my ass wakes up, I get my two light blankets off my chest and I get up off the floor and I get to work. My life has been nowhere near easy. I fight for food and water each day. I wake up tired, I go to bed even more tired. When needed, I break all the rules stopping me from completing my hopes and dreams.
