Whether you want to get better grades in exams, be promoted at work, eat a healthier diet, or run a marathon, motivation is key.

When we set a goal, we often feel very motivated and ready to achieve it no matter what the circumstances. The problem is that motivation is like a gas tank.

As you progress, the tank empties until one day you feel you have no resources to move forward. What can you do to keep your motivation at its best? Here are some strategies that can help you achieve your goals.

Understand clearly why you have set a certain goal

If it is not very clear to you why you want to achieve a certain result, your motivation will fluctuate. Sometimes we set certain goals, pressured by society, family, entourage. Before setting a goal, carefully consider the reasons why you want to do it.

You can write down all these aspects in a diary so that when you feel that your motivation is leaving you, remember what you started.

Don't forget to reward yourself

It is incredible how often we forget or refuse to reward ourselves for our hard work or achievement of intermediate goals.

This is because we tend to look at the steps that need to be taken, without evaluating the progress made. However, scientists say that it is easier to stay motivated if we offer small rewards from time to time.

Test different approaches

Sometimes when you feel less motivated, you may just be bored. Some of the goals we set for ourselves may involve repetitive activities. If you want to run a marathon, for example, you have to train every day, but that doesn't mean you have to do the same type of training.

To stay motivated, try new approaches to the same kind of result. This will allow you to learn new things, get to know each other better, and even be more enthusiastic about your journey.

Be patient

Some people drop their goals prematurely because they can't wait to go through each stage or because they have unrealistic expectations. If you want a job promotion, for example, don't expect it to happen in a week.

Perseverance and consistency are two qualities that go hand in hand with motivation. Set realistic goals and try to be patient, after all, you are investing in yourself and your future!

Benefit from the positive group pressure

No matter how much we want to, we can't do some things on our own. It is important to be aware when you need help and to know where to look. There are currently many online groups, clubs, courses, etc. where you can meet people with similar goals, from whom you can learn, and from whom you can receive support.

If you feel that the motivation is leaving you, look for such a group or ask their friends for help. Often, supporting others, their ability to motivate you, or their positive peer pressure can help you more than you think.

Be careful how you talk to yourself

Even if we set off full of enthusiasm and motivation, we are often the ones who stand in the way. Of course, it is unrealistic to think that you will wake up every morning with the same degree of motivation or that there will be no moments of despair, but it is important to pay attention to the way you speak.

If you find yourself too often telling yourself that you will not succeed or that your efforts are futile, it is clear that you need a change of attitude. When you find yourself in such situations, counteract by listing all your successes and remembering how much progress you have made.

Motivation can be capricious, but stimulating it in every way possible will lead you to discipline, which is the key to the success and fulfillment of any dream!
