How much does a wooden house cost?
Did you know that wood is much better insulated than concrete? In addition, it is an elastic material, which means that in case of an earthquake it is much more resistant to shock than other materials.
If you are interested in the environment and want to help protect it, then you probably already know that these wooden houses are the most environmentally friendly construction. The only thing you need to pay special attention to is the proper protection of the wood against moisture because it can rot easily and, of course, even more, care should be taken against fire protection.
The lifespan of a wooden house is about 100 years if properly cared for.
You have two options for building a wooden house: either you hire a company and the house will be built by skilled workers, or you buy a "kit" with which the client can assemble his own wooden house, thus saving a sum significant amount of money that would go to the workers. Let's take them one at a time:
1. The price of a kit for assembling the house depends, of course, on its surface. Prices vary between 100 and 250 euros per square meter, depending on the contents of the kit.
This is the cheapest option for a wooden house and costs about 30–40% less than the one that involves hiring workers. However, you should keep in mind that the price of a kit does not usually include transportation, foundation, and utility installations.
2. The price of a turnkey wooden house is more difficult to calculate, given that it depends on many factors: the location in which it is built, the quality of materials, the type of insulation, etc.
Estimated, the price per square meter of a turnkey wooden house would be 300 euros, but it varies depending on the factors mentioned. From the websites of construction companies, you can choose models of houses at a fixed price.
A house of 180 square meters, of which 150 habitable, with 13 rooms and a term of execution of 120 days costs, for example, around 54,000 euros.
You will have to compare the offers on the market and always pay attention to the ones that seem too good to be true - they are usually incomplete and you will have to pay large sums to get a finished product.
Careful! To the price of a wooden house, you must add, of course, the price of the land, if you do not already have one. This can mean tens of thousands of euros, depending on the area where you buy it.
In total, the cost of a small wooden house, to which you add the cost of a plot of land, can lead to an amount of over 100,000 euros. Of course, it can be much less, if you settle for a small and chic house. It all depends on your preferences and possibilities.
Before you decide, however, you must also consider the disadvantages of a wooden house:
- it is a construction with a shorter lifespan. Wooden houses cannot be inherited from generation to generation, like those from other materials;
- sound insulation generally leaves much to be desired;
- if you want to have the wooden house for as long as possible, you will have to invest a lot of money in repairs and periodic inspections, because the material is much more degradable than others;
- a wooden house has no stability if it exceeds two floors, so pay attention to the "offers" that offer you multi-story houses.
To find out exactly how much a wooden house costs, you will need to research the market and contact the construction companies to explain exactly what you want. Follow the tips above and try to get the best deal!
