How Do You Know If You Are a Narcissist?
What Are Some Signs You Are A Narcissist
Narcissism is a term that has been thrown around a lot lately. It's a condition that can be identified by a lack of empathy for one's fellow human beings, an inflated sense of self-worth, and the need to feed off other people to feel alive.
In today's society, where social media thrives on over-sharing and instant gratification, narcissist has become more prevalent than ever before.
Narcissism is a mental disorder that falls on the higher end of the continuum of personality disorders.
This means it is more difficult for someone with narcissism to recover than someone with a borderline personality disorder.
Narcissistic traits are seen in different degrees of severity, and there are many different subtypes.
What Are Some Signs You Are A Narcissist?
Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental illness characterized by overestimating one's abilities, which is made more extreme by feelings of inferiority.
Narcissists are often preoccupied with thoughts of grandeur and fantasies about success, beauty, power, intelligence, faultlessness, or any other supposedly glamorous qualities.
The most common symptoms are selfishness; self-centeredness; lack of empathy, all on the opposite end of the spectrum of healthy behaviors.
Lack Of Empathy
A lack of empathy is a severe problem for children and adults alike.
Empathy is the ability to understand what someone else may be feeling in a given situation, not just by using logic but by relating to their feelings.
It needs to be developed over time through socialization and positive reinforcement.
When this skill is neglected, children are more likely to exhibit antisocial behavior, abuse other people's property, lie, cheat or steal.
Blameshifting
Blameshifting is a manipulative tactic maliciously used by an individual to avoid accountability.
This type of behavior is common in narcissists and sociopaths as they desire to maintain their facade and avoid feeling guilty about their actions.
Those who blameshift will often try to make the victim feel like they are at fault for what has happened, insisting that it is anything but the person's own doing.
Gaslighting
Gaslighting is a form of emotional abuse where the abuser tries to convince you that you are crazy or they are the correct one.
This happens when the victim starts to realize they are being abused, and this causes them to find their autonomy.
Gaslighting can be so effective because it causes the victim to question their sanity and memory, meaning they may not be able to recall what happened to defend themselves accurately.
Insecurity
Insecurity is a constant issue in today's society. As technology advances and we become connected to the world, we're living in a time where we're taking more risks than ever before.
This leads to insecurity and what we consider to be 'crazy.' The reason insecurity becomes an issue is that we need to always be perfect; however, there is no such thing as perfection.
Self-Center
The recent trend of "self-centeredness" has many people wondering if it is really a good thing.
The answer is that it depends on the situation. When people are self-centered, they are focused on themselves and what they want or need without considering how their needs conflict with others.
For example, if someone's child is playing in the park with other children but wants to focus on themselves, they are self-centered.
