People have fallen out of love with Hollywood and call it woke. You cannot blame the general movie going populous for believing this when many in the movie business are notorious Democrats. That is not a big deal on the surface. When SNL has become a big liberal stroke job, no alternative message in most Hollywood movies and television jobs except a liberal one.
Hollywood of old has always had messages in their movies but there were movies without much of a message, slasher films come to mind, and there were usually multiple viewpoints expressed fairly and objectively. Outside of biased work placing so much emphasis on a forced, left-leaning message we have celebrities like Pink saying, ''Pro-life fans don't listen to her freaking music again.''
This is absolutely stupid and childish and is hindering your career. Musicians, actors, writers, creatives and entertainers in general make art to reach as many people as possible. It is all well and good to write a movie or music that will appeal to your narrow little political sphere. Great. Now, as a writer, I have written things with political messages I agree with, disagree with and with messages that are not even remotely political.
Think of the movie Scrooged, yes, it is a Christmas movie, and that will appeal mainly to Christmas fans, noted, but, when Bill Murray is crying over seeing his long-deceased mom again, young alive, beautiful and spending Christmas Eve with her again, it tugs on the heart strings of anyone that has loved their mother and pined for one more day with her.
That was in 1988. In 2023, actors and Hollywood types don't just espouse their political beliefs, they shame anyone who dares hold any other opposing view instead of endearing themselves to the public. You are an entertainer, which means you entertain the people, you are your own commercial and condemning and alienating half your audience is extremely stupid and short-sighted.
Let's say you try to star in more movies that will appeal to more people than are just in your narrow political sphere. Guess what? Those you've already alienated have stopped seeing your movies. Some people hated Spike Lee and his movies. They thought the filmmaker was anti-white, but guess what?
The people back then did not boycott him because he said what he wanted to say through his films. It is one thing to espouse your political views in an interview, but it is another to shame and holler at conservatives during election years. Mix this with the media shaming conservatives and showing their liberal biases and you are left with a one-side lecture that labels you as woke or liberal.
I love The Conjuring. Most of that cast is liberal. They gave me Christian, ghost hunters I can root for. Shanley Caswell was tremendous in it and is a big time liberal and can espouse that part of her personality in stuff like Raising Kanan but I will always think of her as Andrea Perron. It is your work that is important to us. And you're only going to reach so many of us espousing your views on your audience, especially condemning those you disagree with.
Art is bigger than the artist. It is supposed to get you to reach beyond yourself and reach as many people as possible. It is scaring off people by condemning conservatives and alienating them from buying your art. It is ironic that in a quest for wanting to reach more people and being inclusive, the short-sighted artist is being exclusive because he or she is alienating their audience by carrying on like a child on social media.
