5 YouTube Channels and Other Social Media, Websites, and Apps You Should Follow To Break Up Your Doomscrolling
It's understandable. The world is changing at a faster pace than ever before, and every new development is available at our fingertips. But experts say that doomscrolling is really bad for our mental health. It leads to increased feelings of anxiety, depression, helplessness, and can even negatively impact our sleep and social lives.
And it's a difficult habit to break out of when it vies with our need to stay informed, especially when staying informed means knowing whether or not your rights have just been taken away.
But you can intersperse "being informed" with learning about the positive things happening in the world. As was stated above, the world is changing fast! New and wonderful things are being discovered every day! Though, admittedly, it can be difficult to find these things, they are out there to be found. Read on to find some of them.
1) Good News on YouTube
Good News launched on YouTube in March of 2023, and I have been following them for probably a year now. I find the info not only heartening but really fascinating! The medical breakthroughs are just incredible. And I think their description says it all:
Uplifting news, heartwarming stories, and empowering content that will keep you motivated and hopeful! Join us as we celebrate the incredible achievements in technology and medicine, acts of kindness, and positive stories that remind us of the beauty and goodness in the world!
2) Sam Bentley on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook
You can follow Sam Bentley just about anywhere – and you should! You may have already seen his smiling face or heard his chipper voice come across one of your feeds. On YouTube, he publishes monthly roundups as well as shorts that also appear on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
Sam is also the author of Good News, Planet Earth: What’s Being Done to Save Our World, and What You Can Do Too! published by Penguin Random House.

3) Good News Network website, podcast, and app
Good News Network (GNN) has been around since 1997 and publishes articles on the website in both English and Spanish. I recently downloaded the Good News app (available for both Android and iOS), and I find mindlessly scrolling here a more enjoyable time than on social media or other news apps.
If podcasts are more your thing, give Good News Gurus a listen on your app of choice.
GNN also published a book, And Now, The Good News: 20 Years of Inspiring News Stories.
4) That Good News Girl on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook
That Good News Girl, aka Jenn, is another face you may have seen pop up on your social media feeds. She has given herself the monumental task of posting "something positive everyday." The videos are quick and frequently include cute animals.
This one maybe isn't as "newsy" as others on this list, but they are a more than welcome addition to my scrolling.

5) The Good News Movement website, Instagram, and Facebook
No videos here, just brief uplifting articles. Even their Instagram has text on photos rather than reels. Similar to Sam, the Good News Movement does weekly roundups of the social media blurbs on their website. Per their website:
Because we’re just as tired of negativity in the media as you are, we created our own content channel aimed at giving the audience something positive to focus on. Now more than ever there is an interest and a need for good news. The Good News Movement gives us a greater purpose to aspire to each day.
