Day pages, January 22nd, 2024

It's Monday afternoon, 12:28pm. I am writing from my dining room table, with a pink notebook to my right, and a cup of chai tea to my left. The apartment is quiet today, I have work at 4pm, but I'm enjoying my time at home this morning. I always do.

It gives me time to think, to be with myself and, to get to know myself. I thought about goals for this year and then stumbled upon this challenge. I got excited, because writing more frequently is on my vision board for this year, and what better way to write more consistently, than on this platform? (I know there are others out there, but this one remains to be my favourite )I've been a member since January 2020, and so far I have loved it. I enjoy creating stories and sharing my experiences as well. So it got me thinking, what do I desire for 2024, out of this platform? It's been 4 years now, what do I want to do a little differently?

Here are some goals that came to mind, that I would like to work towards:

1. I aim to be more honest with myself on the page.

I find that the more truthful we are about what we are sharing, the more we will be able to connect with others. And maybe that’s not everyone's intention, but I think that’s mine for this year. I am reaching 27 years old in March. It’s a little weird to think about, because I am 5’1, and I sometimes feel like I’m still 23 years old. Age is just a number. But I've found that there is so much freedom in truth these days. It's not easy, nor is it something we wanna face, but it's freeing.

I also feel like I owe it to myself to be honest with myself and through that, I am getting to know me in the process, as well as to be able to understand myself and hopefully develop the compassion to help others too.

I also think there's a lot of power in our words and what we write a lot about, and think about frequently. That's why affirmations are powerful, because it's short phrases, but hold power in the simplicity of the words. The amounts of times I've written about getting an apartment in a city, and working a dance job. And years later (fast forward to today), I've acquired those things. I've also written a lot about gratitude, but I also allow myself to write about things that are going wrong, or that I don't feel good about it. But the more I write and focus on my desires and truths, the more of that I will experience. And you can too.

2. Consistency:

I write consistently and daily. At the start of the pandemic, I developed and practiced a daily writing habit, where I wrote 3 pages every morning. Some of you might know it as “Morning Pages”, created by the writer and author Julia Cameron. I’m crediting her for it, because that’s one of her most famous writing practices, that you can use to get the ball rolling with your writing. Whatever it is you need to write. (Make sure to research her too:)

So that’s what I aim for. While I have a regular writing habit in the works, why not practice it on this platform?

Something that helps me with consistency, is setting a timer, and also writing it in my agenda. 20 minutes, write for vocal, it will neatly read in my planner. It can be overwhelming to try and write everything all at once, but we are humans at the end of the day, we are not machines. We need time to rest, process, understand, and breathe. 20 minutes a day is doable for writing, and you do it every day, you've pretty much written a few good chapters of a novel or even the whole novel itself.

Last year and the year before, I didn't treat it as a consistent practice, but more so, as a relaxed side hobby. And that's fine for some people. For me, this year, I desire to be more consistent, and get stronger and better at my writing in general.

3. Have fun with writing!

I desire to have fun with writing this year. In general.

While I did talk about consistency, and scheduling, within those constraints I should also be able to be creative. It shouldn't feel like a chore or something boring. If it does, breaks are then needed, and then re-visit it after a while and go start again.

Whenever I go sit down to write. I also desire to dive into different genres - get back into playwriting and poetry. I’ve dabbled in those in the past, and they were so fun, especially creating characters and fantasies. Writing helps me to escape, to dream, to understand, to express, and to get to know me. To perhaps awaken parts of me that I didn't know existed or bring out the inner child that likes words and visuals, that can take me places instantly.

So there you have it, my goals in 2024 as a Vocal Writer. Happy reading and happy writing! :))
