Falz speaks

By Jide OkonjoPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 3 min read

Rapper Falz found himself the subject of online controversy after media personality Very Dark Man made videos alleging that he and his dad after being paid money assisted Bobrisky in trying to avert justice. It was a very defamatory claim and one that naturally, got the nation talking. Since then, Falz has only spoken via court documents to Very Dark Man, but hasn't really addressed the situation verbally. Until now.

During a new interview with Afrobeats Podcast, Falz opens up about the case and talks about what is going on right now as far as lawsuits and such. Here's what the rapper had to say.

Speaking about the Very Dark Man situation, Falz said:

FALZ: To be honest with you, ideally, I probably would have said I don't want to talk about him, but it's not an issue for me. And also because there has been some misreporting going on. Prior to the first video when he mentioned me and my dad, I had not seen much of him. What I remember seeing was some stuff about people who didn't have NAFDAC and were selling bleaching products, and at that time when I saw some of those clips, I thought okay, this person seems to be doing something right. This is a good cause. But asides that, I won't lie to you, I haven't seen much of his work.

Now this person, one day , thought it wise to turn on his ring light, sit down, and via direct statements, insinuations, and innuendos, allege that myself and my dad, connived with some certain individuals to manipulate justice and bribe the EFCC. And adding that the reason I've done this is because I have a homosexual relationship with Bobrisky. Going further to say that my posturing as an activist, everything is false.

"How did you feel about that?"

FALZ: How would anyone feel? It's horrible. Horrible things to say. Absolutely no proof. Why would you just come and allege all these things with absolutely nothing to support all these statements? Like, ordinary Nigerians need to be more careful before jumping into conclusions. Let's look at things more objectively. Somebody just coming up and alleging something shouldn't be the basis for which you draw your conclusion. What has this person shown to support this allegation? And then, people were saying why didn't I face Bobrisky? Okay now, I wrote via my counsel to Bobrisky and Bob has denied and said that absolutely no money was paid by me or my dad. That all these things are false. And now, you have to defend yourself because he who alleges must prove. I've gone to court for defamation of character because that is what this is. Yes, we have initiated proceedings for defamation because that is what this is. And yet this video I speak of is still very much on his pages, he has not taken them down. And the ruling that the court gave is for him to take it down, and desist from any further defamatory remarks. Of course in my defamation suit, I'm going to ask for damages because that is the only remedy available in a civil suit.
