I’ve had the fortune of crossing paths with so many people in my life and cultivating friendships. I’ve been grateful to meet those that took the time to get to know me and extend their friendship to me even if it was for a brief amount of time.

Whether I’ve had the privilege of having a friendship with someone that lasted a good majority of my life or a friendship that was more fleeting but still meaningful, each and every one of these friendships have taught me a lot about life.

On Seeing the Fun in Life

Thank you to the friend who helped me to see that life itself can be an adventure even in the most ordinary and monotonous of days. You taught me to be brave and to go for it even when my self doubt told me otherwise. You have reminded me time and time again about the fun there is to be had in life, although, I admit, I would roll my eyes at your all too often spontaneous nature.

“Want to go see that new horror movie tomorrow evening. I heard it's supposed to be good!”

If I was truly feeling it, I'd agree to go.

Sure! I’m not doing anything tomorrow evening and the trailer for it did look good!

Sometimes we need a much needed reminder to make the most of life, slow down, and not take it so seriously.

On Opening Up and Vulnerability

Thank you to the friend that taught me a valuable lesson about opening up and paying attention to my true feelings. You taught me that it’s important to be open with others and that it is often needed to get such things off our chest whether you are happy, sad, or angry. I have been more open with my feelings or at least have strived to be thanks to you! And as they say about being open with how you feel, I feel a million times better after doing so. You taught me a lesson on opening up and just being vulnerable with my feelings all while giving me a safe space to do so.

Here's more about that friendship here.

On the Joy of Meeting New People

To the friend that taught me the joy of meeting new people. You have showed me that there are the most interesting stories behind even the most seemingly ordinary of individuals. Sometimes, we just need to give them a chance to share their story. You might be surprised how far a simple hello can go and what it can unravel into if you give it a chance.

I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many strangers in passing and just getting to know them. Even if it was for five minutes and never seeing them again, the connection was still meaningful. Sure I've had the misfortune of also crossing paths with some less pleasant individuals but isn’t that how life goes sometimes? It’s the ones that made us smile and feel good about ourselves that make us forget about that kind of negativity.

On Seeing My True Potential

Here's to the friend who taught me to recognize my self worth and that I am capable of anything I put my mind to. That if we genuinely want to learn how to do something, we should do it. Don't let anything like stereotypes or self doubt hold you back!

This friendship has also made me realize that all too often we can have a hard time seeing our true potential.

I’m grateful to have learned these valuable lessons from the friendships I’ve made. I can only wonder what life lessons I've unknowingly taught others?

If you have the privilege of having such friendships, value them and don't take them for granted. In a sense, each valuable friendship we make can teach us so much about life.

I know mine did!

"You have written about friendship in a truly wonderful way. Selfless! As long as your body is healthy and death is far away, strive to know your soul. Otherwise, how will you become a good friend?" — Chanakya
