Can someone teach me how to use Vocal?
The story of a newbie navigating the waters of the writing platform that is Vocal Media.
Well hello there.
If you've stumbled onto this article, I'm guessing it's either from the bottomless vocal reading rabbit hole you’ve fallen into for the last two hours or you found this completely accidentally and you're just about to click out of this page.
BUT LET ME STOP YOU RIGHT THERE.
Now, if you have actually stayed due to my passive aggressive sentence, then I'd like to think I've sparked a small sliver of interest in you; that or you're slightly afraid of me. If I have, then that also means I've completely fooled you too. HA NOT WHAT YOU EXPECTED WAS IT?
Truth be told, I don't have anything interesting to write about in this piece. It was more supposed to be a welcome article to my vocal page. I always like to start new things with an opening, whether it’s a fresh journal that I’m breaking in, or a new blog space. Sometimes even a title page can make everything feel a bit more put-together. And God knows I need that in my life.

I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Susanne, and I’m a youngish adult female who’s still studying at university. I’m an Australian born Indian, which has dealt me a few things in life like identity crisis’s, huge families, weird accents, but most importantly, it has given me access to some of the best food in the whole world. I work part-time in a job that causes me absolute misery, and most importantly, I love to write.
So, what exactly am I doing on Vocal?
To be honest, I came across Vocal Media a few days ago when I was scrolling through Instagram, as one does, and the ad for the ‘Little Black Book’ writing competition appeared between Instagram stories. I physically stopped the ad, which I never do, actually swiped up on the link (wow, crazy) and then fell into the bottomless pit of vocal articles and stories. I found this writing platform to be really intriguing, but maybe that’s just the highly advertised “GET PAID TO WRITE” that I see all over the platform. Whoever came up with that marketing slogan needs to get a raise.
In all seriousness though, (which is a rare occurrence for me because you’ll soon find out that I use humour as a coping mechanism) Vocal Media can be used as an educational platform where creators can hone their skills by receiving feedback, finding out what’s relevant and what’s not and just all-around having fun with their writing. There’s so much to explore and write about in the world, and you’ll find it all on Vocal.
So, what can you expect from me? Well, on my page you’ll find a bit of everything really.
Okay Susie, you really couldn’t be vaguer.
BASICALLY, I’ll be experimenting with different topics and attempt to do all kinds of writing. I might make some cookies one day and share the recipe. Or I might rant about my degree and complain about the copious amounts of university work that I don’t do. I may share the heartbreak I’m going through, or my current book favourites or the fanatical obsession I have for Avatar: The Last Airbender. The possibilities are limitless, but one thing is for sure, it will always be a little different.
So come along on this journey with me! I hope you’re at least slightly entertained by me, and if you are, be sure to send me a message or something! I would love any and all constructive criticism you guys have for me, I’m here to improve my writing and if my grammar is still at kindergarten level, I want to know!
Okay, so now can someone teach me how to use Vocal?
