Body Language: Eye to Eye and Your Soul Is Revealed
Let's talk about body language.
Nonverbal communication is the act of conveying a thought, feeling, or idea through physical gestures, posture, and facial expressions. Similar to how italics emphasize written language, nonverbal behavior can accentuate parts of a verbal message.
Body language, especially facial language, has been studied throughout history. People have been concerned since ancient times with the gestures made with the eyes, their gaze, and their effect on human behavior.
We all use phrases like, "He pierced her with a look," "He has the big eyes of a child," "He has a slippery look," "He has a look that entices you," "He shone something in his gaze.", "He has a deadly look," "He has a look that kills him," and so on.
Using such expressions we refer, without consciously realizing it, to the size of the two pupils of the eyes or to the way of "taking a look". In The Tell-Tale Eye, E. Hess states that in all human communication, the eyes transmit the most accurate and accurate signals because they occupy a focal place on the body, and the two pupils function independently.
Depending on the lighting, the two pupils of the eyes dilate or contract, just as a person's attitude or mood changes from positive to negative and vice versa. When someone is aroused, the dilation of the pupils can increase up to four times the normal size.
A negative condition, on the contrary, causes the pupillary contraction popularly known as "small bead eyes" or "snake eyes".
The eyes play a big role in sex. Women use makeup to draw attention to what we call "attractive looks." If a woman is in love with a man, she looks at him with a dilated pupil, and the man interprets this signal correctly, without actually knowing what is happening.
Therefore, romantic encounters usually take place in dimly lit places, where dilation of the pupils can occur (due to low light).
The young lovers who look deep into each other's eyes watch, without realizing it, the dilation of the pupils. Each of them gets excited by noticing the size of the other's pupils.
According to some research, when watching pornographic films, presenting men and women in different sexual positions, the dilation of the pupils in men increases almost three times compared to their normal size.
When watching the same movies, the dilation of women's pupils is even greater than that of men, which casts some doubt on the claim that women are less stimulated by pornography than men.
When we talk about pupils, we need to know that babies are bigger than adults and they have a constant dilation in their presence, just to draw attention to the baby.
Testing professional card players has shown that fewer games are won if the opponent wears smoky glasses. If in poker, for example, the opponent is dealt four aces, a rapid dilation of the pupils gives him away, this being inadvertently noticed by the expert player who will intuit that in that game it is better to abstain.
The opponent's black glasses cover the eyes, and therefore the signals from the eyes so that the expert will win fewer games than usual.
The observation of the two pupils was also practiced by the old Chinese gem merchants who, during the price negotiations, were watching how big the dilation of the pupils was in the eyes of the buyer.
Centuries ago, prostitutes "filled" their eyes with belladonna to get a dilated pupil and thus be more desirable and appetizing. Aristotle Onassis, in his business negotiations, always wore black glasses, so that a look would not betray his thoughts.
An old saying goes, "Look into the eyes of the person you're talking to." When we talk or negotiate with others, let's look into their eyes, notice the slightest dilation of their pupils, and thus we will realize what their true feelings are. The eyes are the mirror of the soul.
