And Just Like That is Over

What went wrong?

By Salty Sunshine PodcastPublished 6 months ago 3 min read

Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That is over. Show runner, Michael Patrick King, reported the current season will be the last and the show states the decision was a creative one. We all know they are abruptly choosing to end the show because the backlash, ratings and crap talking about how bad it is, has gotten back to them. There is no doubt they didn't realize how bad the show was until this third season and the reactions.

The bottom line is when a show reboots, people tune in because they love the show that once was. We want to see the same show in a sense with the same characters, altered somewhat to align with age and time passing but you cannot bring completely different cast to a show and expect people to embrace this iconic treasure of a show.

It's so sad how they botched this reboot so badly, I would want it scrubbed from the internet and streamers personally.

Carrie seemed emotionally stagnant or regressive; many criticized her handling of Big’s death and her interactions with others as tone-deaf. She should've never went back with Aidan. She left Aidan for Big. Why would she go back with him? That was a huge mistake and he wasn't himself either. The characters were weird and off.

Miranda's sudden pivot from a thoughtful, rational lawyer to an impulsive, awkward person in her 50s confused and frustrated fans. Her relationship with Che Diaz felt forced and inorganic.

Charlotte played more as a caricature of her old self. They literally made her an airhead which she never was.

The show frequently paused to explain gender identity, race, or privilege, often in a way that felt like it was lecturing its own audience rather than integrating these ideas naturally. Trying to be inclusive doesn't belong in a show. This is supposed to be real lives of real people not a school lesson.

The show focused heavily on aging, mortality, and social anxieties of being 50 years and older in New York. I for one, 48 years old, feel the same inside. Sure the body changes, you don't stay out as late, can't drink as much, enjoy different activities but your brain for so many stays the same. You laugh the same, the sense of humor is the same and they didn't show this side for any of these characters. They just changed them completely to new people in the weirdest way possible.

They never should've killed off Big but they did for political reasons. So Carrie should've started dating. She should've lived vicariously through maybe a younger woman and her dating stories either through a coffee shop, work or her building. Miranda should've stayed with Steve after all they went through and showed her parenting and marriage side. Charlotte should've just been Charlotte lending her ear, living her life and complaining about her kids. The new additions to the show should've been hip New Yorkers just having different issues maybe even a sudden murder mystery thrown in there. A fashion show debacle, some juicy book drama, we needed just New York living stuff.

They did what many shows have done since covid and went political which ruins 100% of shows that do this. Law and Order SVU was literally my favorite show and I can't even watch it anymore. They changed the formula and it's really really bad.

Samantha recently alluded to the fact that Sarah Jessica Parker wasn't very nice to her and she hasn't really talked to any of them for a while. She would've been disappointed with this writing maybe she would've told them this is silly and fixed it? I don't know but the movies they made were ok after the show ended but at least they were still themselves.

I think they can still revamp it without the writers they used and just call it 'Sex and the City We're Back'. That's what people want the fashion, the dating drama, the marriage advice, the friendship. I would totally watch it if they brought back the real stuff would you?
