A Strategy of Love

How to love instead of loath social media

I took a good long look in my social media mirror recently and saw I was not practising what I preach. I was taking time away from social media, which felt good, but I was not showing up in the way that I would coach or support my clients. Especially those feeling lost or overwhelmed with social media, as many of us have felt this year.

I fully support taking breaks both from social media and from the business. We are nature. We have seasons. And cycles. However, I was lingering longer in this liminal space than felt good for me or for the business. These moments can sometimes show up as wobbles and doubts, the feeling of ‘should I give it all up and go get a job?’ – even after fifteen years of being self-employed! Luckily, over the years, I have learnt to ride the waves of doubt when they re-surface. I recommit. I integrate my knowing and honour the journey, I don’t judge it; instead, I know that it is time to show up and play again and I get excited about what this energy will create…

“Following your own unique rhythms and cycles – going back to your core/radix/source or origin – is especially hard if you are anchored to external time-lines. When events or goals are expected to materialise within an arbitrary timeframe to keep pace with the Yang extravert male culture we live in, they will often be out of sync with where you are in your current cycle of Incubate/Create/Play/Retreat, making you feel unsupported, lost, impatient, or anxious. But the truth is, being out of sync is also part of the growth process. This is the quantum realm of uncertainty and entanglement. Nothing is ever clear cut here. Just notice that the more you trust your own organic cycles, the less relevant linear time-lines become.“

One way that I find really supports this way of being, both in business and on social media, and certainly helps me navigate any feelings of overwhelm, is having a Strategy of Love…

I ask questions relating to where things feel stuck and ask myself some Inner Unicorn Questions around what love would do…

Love shows up – what does that look like?

Love is consistent – what does that look like?

Love is intentional – what does that look like?

Love feels supported – what does that look like?

Love has boundaries – what does that look like?

Ooooo do you see where I am going with this? How can the power of LOVE, one of the most powerful forces in the universe, support you in creating a Strategy of Love for your social media? What does that look and feel like for you?

We often forget or don’t make the connection that what is true for our physical, and spiritual world is also true for our digital world. This is particularly useful when we go into overwhelm, fear or frustration with social media, or the business.

Having a Strategy of Love in my experience works a treat! It shifts feelings of overwhelm, it raises the energy, brings a sense of excitement and wonder, which spills into your content, into your conversations and ultimately into the business.

It is good to remember that the energy you put in may not be returned to you in thousands of followers or likes, or even money necessarily – although often it does. These are reward mechanisms programmed into us by a capitalist system. Instead, it could come back to you in subtler and much more magical or meaningful ways, like one connection that opens a door to whole new stream of clients, or a DM from one of your favourite authors or creators asking to find out more about what you do!

We forget that we are still in the business of relationships, rather than algorithms, when we use social media, so we ‘think’ we have to post every day, or three times a day and use all the hashtags in order for social media to work for our business. That we have to be in people’s timelines all the time, gaining lots of new followers and likes every day for people to see us, to see the value in us, to remember us, to want to buy from or work with us. Actually, all it might take is one blog post, one Instagram post, one YouTube video, one share and you are there, a connection is made in someone’s heart, with someone new or someone you know who reaches out to you.

I actually have a lovely and timely story to share about this! When I recently saw that I was not showing up with a Strategy of Love, I switched things up and within a week of doing so, I got a sweet sweet sign that it was working when I got a message from a woman whose work I adore, asking me more about my business… The timing of it all was the wink I needed from the universe, as my social media activity all aligned in the most perfect of ways, that you could never make up, that led to her saying… “No wonder I felt compelled to reach out to you!” We are arranging a call to speak and I am very excited at the prospect of supporting and helping her. I have outlined the basics of what I did to create this magical connection below – know that you can do it, too!

11 simple things to support a Strategy of Love:

Put time in the diary to LOVE on your social media rather than doing it on the fly.

Draw a heart map – write down all the things you LOVE about social media.

Set intentions – Start with – What do you want your social media to do for your audience? What do you want it to do for you? How can LOVE be given and received?

Create a Framework To Flow Within for your content that can be lovingly, easily and joyfully created /recycled / remixed consistently.

Ask yourself, ‘What’s your frequency?’ – How many times would you LOVE to post per week? What feels good? What content would you LOVE to create / use / share?

Sit down to create & schedule posts for the next week or two from this place!

Tune into SPIRIT, SOURCE and your LIGHT energy – let LOVE guide you here…

Infuse and bless the posts with LOVE as you upload them.

Sit back, breathe, relax. TRUST, LOVE and LET GO – to do its thing in the digital dimension while you exist day to day EMBODIED in the PHYSICAL one.

Have loving boundaries around when you check and respond to engagement.

Be personal and personable with people online – reply with / send voices notes & authentically LOVE bomb the people you want to connect with further.

ALLOW THE MAGIC TO UNFOLD.

And report back to me when it does!!
