The following statement is going to surprise you but, I have only been thriftshopping once.
I know, right? It is shocking.
Not because I do not like the idea of thrifting or do not support it. No, I love it. I have been thrifting once and it was a great experince but sadly I did not find anything clothing that would fit me and match my style. To be fair - I also dont like shopping in general. I rather online shop.
However, as the title might expose it already, I do have a story about my one and only experience.
August 2020. I moved to California, not having any friends. But luckily I found a friend real quick who turned out to be my best friend and we hung out everyday. Her and my energy was matching like peanutbutter and jelly. It was a great time.
One Friday, I was working, she texted me:
"Hey, let us go surfing next weekend and go on a roadtrip today."
"For sure" I replied being so extremly happy.
We both are highly spontaneous people, outgoing and pretty much down for everything. And so after I finished up work at 8pm, I packed my stuff into a small suitcase, threw some pillows and blankets in, jumped in my car and picked her up. On the road we went and drove all the way from the bayarea to LA. We arrvived at around 3am and found a neat "sleepingplace" - a parking lot. The first "night" we slept in the car - we are young, why not? In the morning we got a Starbucks and went to the Malibu beach. I do not like summer and the beach BUT the Malibu beach, the houses, the surferboys? I was happy, haha.
In the afternoon we drove to LA downtown and checked out our airbnb where we stayed for the next night. We explored LA downtown, Beverly Hills, hiked to the HollyWood sign and ate incredibly good food.
Sunday, around noonish, we drove back home.
As we searched for a place for lunch she spotted a thriftshop. She LOVES thrifting. We parked and went in immediately. Of course. She loved it and I have never been so she needed to show me the hype, haha. And I liked it.
We went inside and she was looking through the pants since she can pull off every type of pants. I was wandering around and looked at all the things but couldnt find anything interesting for me. After a while I went to her and looked with her for pants. She found two. Later that day, when we arrived back home, she tried them on and they looked amazing on her.
You probably wonder why I told you the story about our weekend trip and just now reach the thriftshop topic. Well, as I said, thrifting is just not the thing for me and therefore I cannot tell you about hacks or special items I found while thriftshopping. But I created a memory inside a thriftshop.
A couple weekends later our friendship sadly ended. Things happend and it is okay that we are not friends anymore. Turns out that the thriftshop experince was the last memory we created. The last thing she "taught" me. (I am from Germany therefore she taught me a lot of "typical American teenager things"). The last thing we did together, besides a few weekends hanging out. I will always miss her and the spontaneous trips and things we did. I will always think of that thriftshop near LA. And I will always think about her.
