A Hot Air Balloon Ride Over The Serengeti

A hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti
As we arrived at the launch site in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, the first rays of sunlight were just beginning to illuminate the vast savannah. My son Arnold and I had been anticipating this adventure for months, and our excitement was palpable as we made our way to the hot air balloon. We had heard so much about the breath-taking views from above and the unique perspective it offered on the park's wildlife.
We were convinced we had to experience it for ourselves, and we were not disappointed. The awe-inspiring view of the sunrise over the African plains was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we will never forget.
As we climbed into the basket, our dog barked with joy, as if she too knew the adventure that lay ahead. The pilot gave us a safety briefing and then began the process of filling the balloon with hot air. We watched in awe as the balloon slowly took shape and rose into the sky.

As we lifted off the ground, the Serengeti stretched out before us, a never-ending sea of grass dotted with acacia trees and wildlife. We gazed in wonder at the incredible vista below.
We flew over herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles as they roamed across the savannah, the hot air balloon moving gently with the wind. It was a peaceful, serene experience, unlike anything we had ever experienced before. The only sound was the occasional whoosh of the burner, which kept us aloft, and the distant calls of the wildlife below.
As we drifted further away from the launch site, the pilot pointed out various landmarks and areas of interest, providing us with interesting titbits about the history and ecology of the Serengeti. Arnold was in awe of the vastness of the park and asked numerous questions, which the pilot happily answered.
After about an hour, we began our descent back to the launch site. As we neared the ground, we could see the ground crew waiting to welcome us back to earth. We landed softly, the basket coming to rest on the grassy savannah.
The rest of our trip was just as memorable. We spent several days exploring the Serengeti, staying at a luxury tented camp where we had a front row seat to the incredible wildlife. Every morning, we woke up to the sounds of lions and hyenas in the distance and spent our days on game drives, watching as the animals went about their daily routines.
We also stayed at a stunning lodge, perched on a hill overlooking the savannah. From our room, we could see for miles, and at night, we would sit on the balcony, listening to the sounds of the wilderness and watching the stars twinkle above us.
One evening, as we were sitting on the balcony, we heard a loud roar in the distance. My son's eyes grew wide as he realized that it was a lion, and he quickly ran inside to grab his binoculars. We spent the next half hour watching as the lion hunted, eventually making a kill and dragging it back to its pride.
Another highlight of our trip was a visit to a Maasai village, where we were able to learn about the culture and traditions of the Maasai people. The village was vibrant and colourful, with the Maasai dressed in their traditional red and blue clothing. We were welcomed with open arms and spent the day learning about their way of life, including their customs, beliefs, and daily activities.
We also had the opportunity to participate in a traditional Maasai dance and Arnold was even allowed to join in. It was a memorable experience.
Before leaving the Serengeti, we made one final game drive and were treated to a spectacular sunrise over the savannah. The colours of the sky were breath-taking, and as the sun rose, we saw hundreds of animals making their way across the grasslands. We watched as a herd of elephants made their way to a nearby watering hole, and as the sun rose higher in the sky, we spotted a pride of lions basking in the early morning sun.
We made our way back to our lodge, we couldn't help but feel grateful for the incredible experiences we had while in the Serengeti.
