A Big Dream For A Little Girl

Endless Possibilities

By Alisha MillerPublished 5 years ago 5 min read

Introduction-

The world seems full of endless possibilities for some, but for me on this day life seemed very gloomy. In fact, gloomy was an understatement as I peered out at the dark night sky from my windowpane. Clouds seemed to cover the once bright stars I used to wish on as a little girl. They were there no more. Now what I used to wish on those stars as a little girl you wonder? Well, I used to wish that I would become the world’s greatest singer. And that I would become famous. Or perhaps become a millionaire. And so, while growing up in poverty I had these nightly wishes. I would pray and pray each night to the only God I was taught about. And now as an adult, I still pray but I pray for world peace and for wars to cease. A big change from when I was a little girl.

And so, our story begins with me as an adult tending to choose love over big dreams. And while I peered out my window as an adult, I thought to myself what about holding on to those dreams that I had as a little girl? What was so wrong with them I thought! Of course, I have been thinking about buying a lottery ticket and such nonsense hoping to strike it rich or at least half rich. Like wishing for a pot a gold at the end of a rainbow. Only to find there is no such thing. Often, I visit my local Goodwill store for cheap bargains on clothes, furniture or whatever else I can find. One time I found this brilliant Chinese emerald that was calling out for me to buy it. It was sparkling like a light in the dark every which way I would look at it. I was drawn to it like a magnate to a fridge; I could not escape it. In the end, I did not buy it. Although I should have. However, I knew there would be other days that more magnificent items would come along. And today was no different. As I cruised along the highway watching the sapphire sun set in the West. I see my local Goodwill store sign; its glowing white and blue letters lured me in once again. I excitedly pulled in the parking lot, whip into the spot and slam on my brakes. I was finally here hoping I would find more treasures that night. I opened my car door and felt a huge splash of cold, wet water. I had stepped into a puddle. My sock was drenched, I gathered my composure and continued into the building. As I entered the building everything was lit up! Not knowing where I should start first, I made my way following the perimeter and then went to the middle of the store. I ended up in the household items as I always do. I skimmed the overcrowded antiques lightly, being careful not to break anything. I then found a few items, but nothing was spectacular. I headed to the books, because I can find some cheap books for my child to read. I tap my fingers along the de shoved bookshelves. Looking for something that catches my eye. When suddenly I find the perfect children’s book that is great for Valentine’s day. I walked to the register and bought the book. On my way home, I stopped to get some fast food to say the least. I was trying to remember the last time I ate something. But drew a blank. I arrived at my house, got out of my car, and opened my trunk. Trying to juggle the millions of bags I had in my arms in the midst I dropped a few of my bags. As I slowly made my way in the house, I immediately dropped the bags on the floor. I took a rest, ate my food then unloaded the bags of items from Good will and put most things away. However, I kept the children’s book out. I decided to read a few pages myself when suddenly a note fell out it read “to the buyer of this book” I said to myself well this is weird, I flipped franticly through the other pages looking for another message. But one was not found. The next day, while walking to get into my car, I noticed a little black notebook just lying on the wet ground. I must of not have noticed it fall out when I dropped the bags last night, I said to myself. I flipped through the pages, the first few were blank, however it as I peeled the other pages away from one another. I saw that a few of the pages had been written on. I read a few passages of what was written. That was it I said, I have stumbled on someone’s diary. On one of the pages, it read a sequence of numbers 24,56,18,32 ,05. I though wow strange. But I took it with a grain of salt. Later that night it occurred to me that these were lotto numbers and that I should play them. Which I did. When I arrived home later that day from running errands ,I was talking to my mother on the phone and told her about this strange little black notebook I found in a children’s book from Good will .She went on to say that I had one exactly like that when I was younger and that I would often times write random stuff into it .She then told me that after she moved she could not take everything with her .And most of the items she got rid of were old books that were no longer needed. I could not believe it could this be my diary from when I was a little girl. If so, what were the odds that it landed right where it was supposed to be? I mean, I have been seeing synchronicities for years now, such as the numbers 777 ,444 and 1111. But how could this be.A few, weeks passed by and I decided to check my ticket numbers on the lotto website. I went down to the option “check your ticket” and enter every number that I played into the system, I then pressed enter. The first number came up, then the second, the third, fourth then finally the fifth. I screamed and jumped! It was the numbers I played from the little black notebook. I have just won twenty-thousand dollars on the Hit-5 lotto. I thought to myself was this a dream or did the dreams that I had as a little girl finally come true. Did all my wishing on a star and praying finally pay off!? I guess it is true what they say in the end, that the world is truly full of endless possibilities and winning the lotto was the possibility that I was waiting for.
