7 Reasons Why Smart People Can’t Be Happy
Are you happy?
Have you ever noticed that intelligent, deep-minded people are usually unhappy?
These people may have a partner, family, and a good job, but still feel lonely and lost. Ernest Hemingway said: "The happiness of smart people is the rarest thing I've ever encountered."
Here are 6 basic reasons why these people may not be truly happy:
1. They always analyze everything
People with high levels of IQ are prone to analyze everything that happens in their lives. This process of reflection can be exhausting, especially if it does not lead to happy conclusions.
Have you ever heard the phrase, "Only the ignorant are happy"? This is very true: the less you understand, the less you worry.
Seeing what lies behind beautiful words and understanding all the hidden motives of people does not make you happier. This disappoints you in humanity.
2. They are too demanding of themselves
Another feature of these people is that they are very strict with themselves. Most of the time, smart people blame themselves for all their failures.
They often think of ways to act differently than they should. In such moments, they can say goodbye to peace of mind.
They experience guilt, dissatisfaction, and other negative emotions that sabotage them.
3. They have high standards
Smart people know exactly what they want and will not be satisfied with less. This means that it is much more difficult for them to be satisfied with their achievements than for others. They have too high a life expectancy to ever be happy.
4. They feel that reality is not enough for them
Smart people will never stop looking for something more - new meanings, ideas, goals. The abundance of thoughts does not allow them to relax and enjoy the "little things in life".
The reality for them is trivial, boring. They aspire to something fantastic, ideal, unusual, and unfortunately do not find these things in the real world.
Have you ever had the feeling that you are hereby chance, that you belong to another era or another world? How can you be happy when you feel like a stranger in this world?
5. Lack of valuable connection and understanding from others
Each of us strives for one thing - to be understood. How nice it is to have a person with you who thinks like you and with whom you can talk about anything because you share the same ideas.
Unfortunately, few intelligent people can enjoy such a relationship. Many of them feel lonely and misunderstood. They feel as if no one on this planet can see beyond appearances.
It is scientifically proven that for people with a high IQ, socializing is just an obstacle to happiness. This does not mean that smart people do not feel the need to socialize, but that they need deep conversations, about substantial things, not about discounts and weekend plans.
6. Many people with a high IQ suffer from psychological disorders
Several books have been written linking mental disorders, such as a social phobia or bipolar disorder, with a high IQ. Can it be said that psychological problems are like a "side effect" of intelligence? Science still cannot answer this question.
At the same time, intelligent people are prone to existential depression, which is often the result of excessive thinking. If you think about life, death, and the meaning of life, your sadness is guaranteed.
7. Smart people think too much
They need to analyze everything. If a fool wants to go from point A to point B, he goes ahead and plows and he sees after that.
If a smart person wants to get from point A to point B, first analyze possible routes and unforeseen situations that may occur in the way and make his plan A, plan B, and Plan C, backup.
