5 Things I Would Tell My Younger Self

Dear Younger Self

By Andrea MinjarezPublished 5 years ago 4 min read

When I was younger, I thought that the world was mine. I thought that every decision I decided to take, would not affect the future, every action I took, would not change my future, and even though with some of the decisions I made, it did not make a difference in my future, there are many actions and decisions that I took that I know my life would have been differently if I had known them or had someone to think wisely before taking those decisions. There are so many things that I wish I would have known when I was younger that I know would have helped me better myself for my future now. I know many of us young women go through similar struggles and situations that we would have wanted someone older to tell and warn us about, and I know that many young women go through it now. I want to be able to be that person for you and for whoever else needs it because I know that if I could go back in time and tell myself these 5 things, I would have been better prepared for life, relationships, and even learned how to be nicer to myself.

Tip #1, be kind to yourself. It's easier said than done, I know that, but it's also true. By being kind to yourself, you allow yourself to accept your flaws, your mistakes, and even getting over your insecurities. By being kind to yourself, you allow yourself to make mistakes and learn from them. You learn how not to be so hard on yourself, and to give yourself the learning experience that you need in order to grow as a person. Be kind to yourself because this will help you grow as a person and learn how to love yourself, which would be my next tip for myself.

Tip #2, love yourself no matter what. Learn to love the person that you are, your body, your personality, your character, the person you are inside and out. By doing this, you learn that no matter what people think of you, or what they think about you, doesn't matter to you at all. You do things for yourself, you think about yourself and the most important person to you, is you. Why you may ask? Well because nobody else's opinion matters to you. The only one that matters is what you think of yourself.

Tip #3, be patient with yourself and with life itself. Having patience in every aspect in life is something that is very important because it teaches you that everyone's journey is different. It teaches you that everyone gets to where they need to and are destined to get to at a different pace. Love, friends, family, jobs, money, anything that you could possibly think of, will come to you at your own pace. So be patient with life, and also be patient with yourself. By being patient with yourself, you allow yourself the time to learn how to help yourself grow, learn your flaws inside and out and to accept them. You give yourself the patience of learning the person that you are becoming and the woman that your are growing into becoming.

Tip #4, learn as much as you can. Learn anything that you want, anything that you are passionate about and anything that interests you. I've become to believe that the more you learn and the more knowledge you have, the more experience you get and the more ideas you can create. Read as many books as you can and learn as much as you can because knowledge is power. And I don't precisely mean school books or common topics, but read books about life, about the stock market, about different cultures, or even about gardening. Anything that interests you and what your passionate about. They key here is that knowledge is power, so the more you expand your mind and open your mind, the more possibilities you have in life.

Tip #5, explore the world and life. Explore new ideas and new places that have always interested you. Visit different cities, states, even countries that have always interested you. Don't let anything get the in the way of letting you discover new experiences in life and new places you want to see. This will give you some peace in mind because you are able to do so many things that you never thought you would be able to do or thought that you were capable of doing. Don't let anyone get in your way of discovering new places and things that interest you because exploring the world and life itself is something so beautiful that no one can ever take away from you.

One day, I hope to be able to share my experiences and my advice to younger girls that are going through the same things and situations that I did when I was younger. I truly feel that if I had someone tell me these things when I was younger, I would have learned to love myself at a way younger age and how to accept the person that I am. I hope to touch young girls hearts with my experiences and help them learn to love themselves more and more each day.

I hope you enjoy this read and can relate to my experiences!
