A marriage is a lifetime commitment to another person to love them for the rest of your life. Because of life expectancy, "rest of your life" for some people ends up being 50s, 60s, 70s. It is very rare to find people who have been married for over 50 years. For context, even one of the most popular Nigerian couples Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva have been married for 36 years. It is not easy.

1. Pete Edochie

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie is the Nollywood actor with the longest running marriage that we know of so far. Yesterday, on the 1st of October, Pete Edochie celebrated 53 years of marriage to his wife, Chief Barrister Mrs. Josephine Edochie. Taking to social media to celebrate and commemorate the day, Pete Edochie wrote:

53 years of Marital Bliss with my Queen, Chief Barrister Mrs Josephine Edochie. Thanks to my Children for hosting us to the biggest party of our lifetime, yes Our LIFE because we are ONE. In celebration of our 53yrs of marriage and Life in Goodness and in Good Health. These past 53yrs, God blessed us with six biological children (among all the inherited ones and numerous grand-children) 5 gentlemen and a beautiful adorable lady, Leo; Adam; Linc; Jean; Yul; Eva, respectively. Thank you all for celebrating with us. Daalu nu.

2. Kema Chikwe

Former aviation minister, Kema Chikwe and her husband Eze Herbert Chikwe have been married for 52 years and on the 7th of December this year, they will be marking 53 years of marital bliss. Together, the two have raised a happy home and raised amazing children and grandchildren, most notable of them, Nigerian rapper Naeto C who is the son of the couple.

3. Mr & Mrs. Obi-Uchendu

The parents of Nigerian media personality and TV presenter, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu are the next people on our list. The celebrity parents also celebrated 53 years of marital bliss on the 25th of January this year.

4. Mama and Papa Ojire

Parents of Nollywood actress Esther Ene Ojire are also celebrating 52 years of marital bliss this year. On June 28th, the couple celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. Not too long ago, their daughter, actress Esther Ojire celebrated them on their wedding anniversary saying:

Happy wedding anniversary to my parents. God continually keep you both in good health and sound mind. I love you both and I am blessed to be your own. Please say a word of prayer for Mama and Papa Esther

5. Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Popular Nigerian pastor, Pastor E.A. Adeboye is the most famous Nigerian person with the longest running marriage. This year, Adeboye and his wife, Pastor Olu Adeboye celebrated 55 years of marital bliss on the 8th of September. Pastor Adeboye took to social media to write about the tremendous feat saying:

'My darling @pastorfoluadeboye the woman who has suffered with me, she stood by me when we had nothing. I was the poorest and the least known of all the men after her 55yrs ago. But she left all those who were famous, well to do and she picked me. Thank God, God had made us a success and proven all the oppostions back then wrong. Here is to 55 more years of double love, double grace, double peace, double of heaven on earth. #PerfectJubilee #CoupleGoals #GodFreedUs

50 years of marriage is no joke! Not many couples get to that in this lifetime so it is definitely something that is worthy of note. Congratulations to these lucky couples.
