Terrifying Encounters: True Horror Stories

This incident occurred shortly after my fiance, Morgan, and I moved into our new house in a quiet town. The neighbors on one side were an amiable elderly couple we met promptly, but our other neighbors were situated a fair distance away, so it took us a while to get acquainted with them. We were still in the process of settling in, organizing our belongings and making the house feel like our home. It must have been around our second week in the house, as we were getting used to our routines.
On one particular evening, I was seated at the table, chatting with Morgan while browsing for area rugs on my laptop. The house felt a bit stuffy, so I decided to slide open the back door to let in some fresh air. However, what I saw in our backyard nearly sent me into a panic. In the dimly lit yard, I spotted a figure sitting in one of our patio chairs. The person appeared to be hunched over with their head down.
I whispered Morgan's name, urging her not to scream, but to look outside. When she joined me at the door, she gasped and instinctively hid behind me, exclaiming that there was a man in the yard. We both contemplated what to do next. I felt a wave of fear wash over me, not knowing whether to confront this stranger or not. Our backyard was quite sizable, and even though this man had his back turned to us and was sitting, he looked imposing.
Morgan suggested that I should knock on the glass and order him to leave, but I hesitated. We were both apprehensive about the situation. The inside lights were on, and the intruder must have known we were home. Gathering my courage, I decided to knock on the glass and shouted at him to get off our property. The man turned to look at me, his face sporting a half-smile, which seemed unsettling. He appeared to be around 50 years old, with a long gray beard and tattoos that extended down his wrists. I locked the door behind me to ensure he couldn't enter the house.
The stranger approached the glass door and shifted his gaze toward Morgan. He began uttering vulgar and disturbing comments, which left me no choice but to warn him that I was calling the police. I immediately dialed 911 and informed the operator about the situation. I kept the phone to the glass so that the operator could hear the man's vile remarks. The man's lewd comments continued until the police arrived.
After the police searched our backyard, took a report, and left, we hoped the ordeal was over. However, later that night, while we were in the living room watching TV, we heard strange noises coming from the yard. I went over to the window and slightly opened the blinds to see the man outside once again. He was smoking a cigarette and seemed to be talking to himself while facing our house. The lights in the yard were off, and he appeared to be aware of our presence. We both heard the eerie sounds emanating from outside.
I decided to take a look through the blinds, and the man noticed, quickly rushing to the window. Startled, I retreated, and he began pounding on the window, spewing more obscene and menacing comments. Fearing for Morgan, I urged her to go upstairs to avoid hearing the disturbing dialogue. I told her I would contact the police again.
I opened the blinds just enough to check, and the man had vanished. I reassured Morgan that he was gone, but in hindsight, I should have called the police for the third time. Downstairs, I heard loud banging and knocking, and it became evident that the man was trying to force his way into our house. I grabbed the phone and called 911 once more, urging them to send the police immediately.
The police arrived promptly this time, but, unfortunately, the man had disappeared once again. It is likely that he fled into the dense woods behind our house. When we talked to our neighbors the next day, we discovered that one couple a few doors down knew this man. He had a history of violence, including assaulting his ex-wife, and he was known to have issues with substance abuse. We were shocked and disturbed by this revelation. We reported the man to the police, but without solid evidence, pressing charges proved difficult. Thankfully, we have not heard from or seen him in a long time, and we hope it remains that way.
