The Real Life Annabelle

The real-life Annabelle doll was not as scary in appearance as one might think.

If you're a horror lover like me, chances are you're pretty big on the "based on true events or true story" movies and are interested in their actual origin. Although the Chucky movies are not based on any sort of true stories it is alleged that they are inspired by a real doll. This doll is known as Robert. Robert the doll is said to have done some pretty terrifying things such as destroy toys and strangle a dog amongst other things. There are actually 2 movies based on this doll specifically, Robert and The Curse of Robert. Robert is on display in a Florida Museum, East Martello Museum in Key West. I first heard his story on a Podcast about Paranormal and Supernatural activities but I'll get into his story more in depth another day.

Another more popular haunted doll story however is Annabelle. And Annabelle from the movies is a terrifying looking porcelain doll, who has an evil appearance. And if you've seen the movies she's extremely dangerous and is more than a haunted doll, she is a demon. These are the true allegations as well. But the real-life Annabelle wasn't as fearful in appearance as the one portrayed in the movies. In fact, the real-life Annabelle was actually a Raggedy Ann doll. Chances are if you were a child of the 1980s and earlier you may have even had one of your own. Of course, let's hope not at least, yours likely wasn't possessed. Upon the dolls original hauntings it was said that the doll was actually possessed by a little girl who was found dead many years earlier in the same location before any residential buildings were set in place. This is who they believed took possession of the doll, her name was Annabelle. Prior to finding this out, the original owner of the haunted Raggedy Ann doll would noticed little things such as the doll being slightly moved but didn't really put a whole lot of thought into it. That is until there were big movements, like being completely in a different location entirely. The original owner claims to have returned home one day and noticed what looked like blood on Annabelle's hands. The scariest part though? The blood appeared to be coming from the doll itself. At this point that is when she contacted a psychic and eventually a Priest who entered the apartment with the Warrens (the couple portrayed in the movies but also real-life Paranormal Investigators.)

The Warrens did not think this was just a case of something being haunted but more of a case of a demonic possession. This demon they believed wanted to take possession of the original doll owners soul. Because according to the Warrens, "Demons don't posses objects, they possess people." When the Warrens left their investigation that day, they knew the best thing to do was to take Annabelle with them and get her out of the apartment so that she could no longer be a threat to the residents. Even in the care of the Warrens, Annabelle wreaked havoc, causing issues and moving about the house even seen levitating a time or two above Mr. Warren's desk. Due to the demonic powers this doll possesses, the Warrens felt it would be best kept locked up. Now the original Annabelle doll is in a locked glass, wood trimmed case with a cross overhead. There is even a warning sign on the display that states to not open the case. Many have claimed to have seen the doll move inside the case from time to time.

As someone who is a collector of all things horror and who owns a Chucky and Tiffany doll as well as a talking Chucky and Tiffany doll, I would likely bet on one of those becoming possessed than something as seemingly harmless as a Raggedy Ann doll. Although it is suspected that the doll did not become a case of demonic possession until it was taken to the apartment where it was retrieved by the Warrens, before the original owner of Annabelle, the Raggedy Ann doll that became the haunted doll was actually purchased from a thrift store. Therefore this doll was already a "used" doll and in my opinion maybe there was questionable instances with the doll prior to this and that's why it was donated in the first place.
