The door to the cabin, locked all the years prior, sat open and cracked, waiting for someone curious enough to walk through. Day and night the candle burned in the window of the abandoned cabin. Night and day the door sat open just a crack in wait for someone to come. Neither had long to wait.

As Jeff Hunnisey approached the property he had left to rot, he recognized the candle to be a storm candle from when he was a kid. Growing up, his father had kept them below the sink in the kitchen in case of emergencies. In his eighty-three years, Jeff had never been curious as to what those candles looked like illuminated. Now he would never have to wonder. Someone had lit the candle and made themselves at home in a cabin that was barely held together by rusty nails and tired wood. Jeff found himself less worried about the trespassing and more worried about the liability of them being in such an unsafe place. An unsafe place on his property and how he would be responsible for anything that happened to them.

The rock was named after a Witch in Sweden who was burned alive at the stake. My grandmother Borgildha, always told me stories about the day they burned the Witch, Malin Matsdotter, she had seen it with her own eyes.

Those who knew the woods, where the cabin sat, knew of the local legend and tradition of Midnight Hide and Seek. Midnight Hide and Seek was a high school senior tradition where students of the graduating class summoned the spirit of the woods - the Leshy - and played hide and seek with it. It is said that if you were caught by the Leshy, you'd be dragged away into the shadows, never to be seen again.
