urban legend
Urban legends have captivated us from ancient eras to the modern day; a deep dive into scary lore and 'could be true' tales about Bigfoot, Slender Man, the Suicide Forest and beyond.
Lost at Sea
Through dense grey fog, a bell tolled for a stranger’s soul. Its heartless note pealing ‘cross the sombre village from westward moors — where spirits darted betwixt gorse and juniper — to the sodden sands of the secluded shore, as the tide turned once more. Momentary silences, a vacuum existing fleetingly between the flat rings of clapper ‘gainst metal, a place for contemplation. Though no sooner had the mind settled than a clank of the bell dislodged it.

Soucouyant of Caribbean Folklore
I find folklore fascinating. Some stories are passed on from generation to generation, never reaching outside the local area. Occasionally, a story makes it outside the locals and into other languages. Lucky for me, this seems to happen often with scary stories. This one comes from a place called the Caribbean, which may summon images of beautiful beaches like the one above.

Horror stories - Myths and Legends Based On Real Events - part 2
The internet is full of all kinds of horror stories, but most of them are just that - simple fantastical concoctions to tell friends around the campfire or in front of the fireplace on frosty winter evenings.

Aleya Ghost lights in India
In the marshes of West Bengal is where you can find these Aleya Ghost lights or otherwise known as Jack-o-lantern. In the marshes when the fishermen are fishing late into the night these ghost lights will come out and the fishermen will try and follow the lights and end up getting lost and end up dying. Many say that the lights are the spirits of dead fishermen and the fishermen out in the marsh get transfixed by the lights and they get confused and end up falling out of their boats and drowning. Other times the light can lead them away from danger.

Tin Can Sam
I was a child of the late 80s, in a time when kids played on the streets till the street lights came on, and riding your bike through town was as normal as going to the corner store to buy your mom smokes. In fact, the woods seemed to be the only place my dad specifically said was off-limits. The woods seemed to be a boundary for many families, and I never knew anyone who went there willingly.

The husband who was replaced
My husband disappeared six months ago. One day he just went to work and never came home. This event shocked all the neighbors, because this has never happened in our quiet suburb surrounded by white lace fences. The police launched an investigation; a neighborhood watch went around the neighborhood, but no one found a single clue that could clarify what had happened to him. Our families struggled in vain with grief. Not so long ago, the last posters with the inscription "wanted" with my husband's face disappeared, torn down, or buried under new ads. The police contacted me less and less, and gradually the calls stopped. I have accepted a new reality. No matter how difficult it was, I admitted that my Martin would never come back.
