supernatural
The hidden world of all things supernatural; a look inside witchcraft, spells, vexes, black magic and other spine-tingling supernatural phenomena.
Child of the Witch. Top Story - January 2022.
The shop windows of Orwell Steel flared bright red. Inside, men in charred denim jackets, some wearing thick leather vests or aprons, stared with black reflective goggles into coal fires and blazing welding torches. Classic rock tunes played loudly from an old brown speaker mounted in a high corner of the shop. Men on duty gave complete attention to their work, never looking up from the screaming torches in their thick gloved hands.

Momentary Helplessness
Weariness ensued a deep sleep over me as I cradled my anxious brain to slumber. My dormitory sang a lullaby of hushed white walls and painted a vision of vast darkness. The complete and utter silence of the room formed a brimming catalog of wailing souls. Screams of those who suffered from morbid delusion as they embarked on their journeys to a utopia of longed fantasies. As my train neared its destination, I turned my head towards the open gates of an expansive walk-in.

Carolina
Dust motes floated as if they were fireflies in the shafts of sunlight streaking across the barn. The young woman’s one good eye, unblinking, stared in wonderment at the exclusive showing. An unwelcome cough created an intense discomfort in her gut that made the teenager heave. The girl sought to turn her body, but her face appeared to be glued to the wooden floorboards. The young lady heaved; head rising from the ground with a noise similar to that of Velcro pulling apart. It took all she had to hold the contents in her stomach right where they belonged. She moaned against the discomfort, but the cry unknown to her ears sounded very much like a lifeless zombie wailing. Slowly the girl sat up and saw that she wore no clothing. In the limited light she could see that her legs, hands, and arms were covered in cuts and scrapes - they showed to be congealed in a blend of blood and dirt.

Unexpected Miracles
Signs that lead us to new beginnings are all around us. Most individuals are paying attention to every detail of the message and the others don’t have a clue in the world at the signs that walk right by them on a daily basis. My sign flew over my head like if a quarterback threw a football towards his teammate and it hit the ground before the catch was made; an incomplete pass.

The Darkness Within
A darkness had begun to plague our village. Blather of the head sickness and murder had befallen the nearby settlements, and it was only a matter of time before the fear set in and turned even the most respectable men into witch frenzied hunters. I let my thoughts drift back to the pandemonium that had swept England; this land was supposed to be safe. The evil that haunted us then was not meant to follow us here. Yet, you could almost taste the panic rising. The coarse wind bit at my cheeks as winter began to take hold. The profound chill seemed as though it were not of this world, but something dark and sinister, as it moved through claiming lives for itself.

I, Zombie
I can hear footsteps occasionally, their percussion traveling through the seemingly endless feet of dirt between here and there. Like the strange muted voices of people gathered around the edge of the swimming pool that you have sunk to the bottom of, holding your breath and ticking off the seconds inside your head. Trying to break your personal record as you look up at their distorted reflections as the ripples in the water make a mess of their faces. I’m not counting anymore; I stopped a long time ago. In fact I don’t really have any use for oxygen. I stopped breathing a long time ago, too. I have no idea how long I have been down here, trying to swim back to the surface through this rock and soil. The hands of the clock bloodied and bruised and ripped, the ribbons of the flesh they used to be are back there somewhere among the scrabble that ruined them. A strip or two may still be in the back of my throat curled around my vocal chords like a bow; I think I can feel a tattered end tickling me, though it may just be me laughing at myself out of sheer frustration.
