Unexpected Miracles

Love is tragic

Signs that lead us to new beginnings are all around us. Most individuals are paying attention to every detail of the message and the others don’t have a clue in the world at the signs that walk right by them on a daily basis. My sign flew over my head like if a quarterback threw a football towards his teammate and it hit the ground before the catch was made; an incomplete pass.

—— ——

The wind brushes harshly again my skin as goosebumps began to form on my arms. As I pulled down my sleeves from my heavy hoodie, I hear whispering in the distance. Turning around quickly I see that no one is by me. This has been happening for weeks it feels like, but in reality it has only been four days. Four days since SHE left me and I still can’t seem to grasp the fact that it is true.

We met when I was only a few weeks shy of turning seventeen, the age where anything is possible in the land of imagination. The age of rebellion and thinking you know everything but in reality you don’t really know yet. Her long strawberry hair was what popped out the most to me until she turned and that bright big smile appeared.

“You know, most people say hi, hello.. even what’s up instead of just standing there like a statue” she exhaled. My hands began to form small balls of sweat. What’s happening?

“Sorry, I’m here to drop you off these documents. Esme sent me and she said to double check the data entry to see if it’s to your liking this time around.” I said while laying down the three colored coded documents that my boss had set up. I had a brand new internship with a major stock company that year and I was extremely lucky to get in. The corner of my lips folded up as she made side eye contact with me throughout that day. During the days following felt just as electric.

Only if we both knew how important that first encounter would turn out to be during the present time. Crying is what seems best at a time like this but the fluids can’t seem to come out anymore. Am I happy about that ? Sad ? Relieved that the tears finally stopped after crying three days straight into my pillows. I don’t know what to feel.

A full decade of us has me reminiscing with my legs crisscrossed outside under the tree where we had our first kiss. As night time is only an hour or so away, the sun is kissing the sky bye.

“Come this way” a voice whispered bringing me out of my trance of rememincing. Again I look around at the soon to be darkness surrounding me and nothing, not a single soul on this huge land. I blink rapidly and look around again as my vision becomes somewhat blurred and I see a faint shadow in the distance. My eyes have to be playing tricks on me right ? The shadow begins to form more into a human like figure and walks into the old barn. The old barn where our bodies danced with each other secretly. Curiosity takes over and my feet take my body up from the ground and I’m walking over to the barn.

I feel no fear as I enter. “If anyone is in here, you need to leave ! Your in private property” I shouted as a somewhat threat. Suddenly, I hear rattling from the corner of the barn where the only horse stable was. Walking over slowly, I began to feel my heart race. I lick my dry lips and squint my eyes trying to see around. Suddenly, I abruptly stop in my tracks once I see movement from under an old raggedy blanket. My breathing becomes heavy but silenced.

My eyes scan the floor under me and I see a medium sized rock and immediately pick it up for protection. This old barn has no weapons to defend yourself with only rocks.

“Who are you ? What are you” I say only a few inches away from whatever is under the raggedy blanket.

Heaviness takes over my chest but with one big deep breath I grab the blanket and whatever it is, flies to the left of me. Scared, I jumped out the way while having my gaze slightly still upon it. It moves crazy in every direction and I start to blink so much until my vision becomes clearer and a white long armed animal was flying in circles above me.

I couldn’t dare to move another muscle once it slowed down and landed right infront of me slowly and lightly like an airplane full of people.

The owls eyes met mine and that’s when I finally understood. I felt her . I felt her warmth, the way her hugs felt when she was in a good mood, the way her smile brought warmth to the room like if you were cold and she was the fire you needed to survive the night. She’s here, she’s home.

“Izzy…” I whispered. The beautiful white barn owl flew away and her spirit appeared bright.

“I’ve been giving you signs since I left, I’m glad you found this little one.. I love you, forever and forever. You will be happy without me again, I see it” and with the last forever she was gone into thin air once again..
