Moon Child
Moon Child Grandpa and I spent a few nights in the woods after the incident with the bottle tree. As good as I had felt the night after, my legs weren't quite up for a hike back out again just yet. So, we spent two nights in the woods while I recovered.

Blood Bath and the Weeping Woman
I was hardly fourteen years old when it happened. Even a flash of that day’s memory terrifies me to the core of my being. My parents, six elder siblings, and I lived in a big house. The courtyard alone was the size of an average home; we had buffaloes, chickens, goats, and pigeons as pets.

Subterra
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space–or so they say. And maybe my ears didn’t catch those frequencies. Maybe I didn’t HEAR it, but I felt it. I felt it deep within me: gurgling in my stomach, fluttering in my eyelids. Was it anger? Pain? Or isolation?

Why Do We Love Spooky S**t?
I’m not sure what it is that fascinates us so much about ghosts, ghouls and all things spooky but I think we can admit that as a society we (or at least the vast majority) are intrigued by the paranormal. Whether it’s the general creepiness of the story, or the macabre details – people start telling them and people start listening. Is it our own mortality that encapsulates us so much? Or maybe the idea that history might not exist only in the past. What if we can exist with it? The notion that you’re not just walking down the same cobbled street as those from the Victorian era – but they might also be walking behind you.

The Cults of Mars
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. In fact I completed one of my Ancient Culture Finals on a Twentieth Century piece that said just that. I’m pretty sure it was this that helped me scrape through my Archeology and Ancient History degree. Not that it made a great deal of difference in the long run. The jobs available on Gentaru for Archaeologists are few and far between, it’s a relatively newly inhabited planet. I’m fourth generation here and my family were by no means early settlers. However, despite the lack of genuine need for my skills, my passion superseded the very sensible advice given by my father.

Song of Ghosts (Part 1)
THEY SAID I HAVE A GIFT. I remember sitting in the Principal’s office when I was a thirteen year old girl with my parents. I felt like being in this office meant that I was in trouble, but I wasn’t. This was good terms. I still kept myself clenched in my seat, my mother touching my shoulder to try and calm me down.

The Red Pickup Truck. Top Story - August 2022.
Mary sat in the passenger seat of the pickup truck waiting for Tom to get back. He had told her to wait in the truck for him. They were parked in a dirty old junkyard that Tom had come to look for a part for his new (well, new to him) 1962 Chevy pickup truck that he had bought just the week before. It was a beautiful cherry red and in pretty good condition even if it was 3 years old now. The interior was almost flawless and Tom had scrubbed and cleaned the vehicle so it would look its best for their date. Tom had left the keys in the ignition so Mary reached over and turned the key just enough to let the radio play. She scanned the dial looking for a good rock-n-roll station hoping to hear another great song by The Beatles. She loved their music, it was different than most music being done in the U.S. these days and she also liked the new look they brought with them from England.

“Space Station 666”
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. “That’s just one scream singular…” I thought to myself after hearing that fact yet again. “The space station has over 100,000 residents with 5000 employees so I’m sure something would hear us if anything went seriously wrong and we ALL screamed.” I further assured myself while rolling my eyes and continuing to listen to the community acclimation orientation. The space station community is one of the newest and most luxurious ones ever. I had proudly been selected out of hundreds of thousands of applications for a lead service position onboard. It was my arrival and understood that the space trip would be my first and last as ALL the positions were under lifetime contracts.

Contents Of A Wide-Ruled Spiral Notebook
I'm writing this in my dad's car because it's the only place Mom can't get to me, I think. I can see her watching me in the mirrors though. My name is Hunter and I'm 12. I don't know what's going to happen. Whoever reads this, please believe me.

The Traveler
I felt the bouncing and swaying of motion as it chased away the last vestiges of my restless sleep. The displeasure of being roughly awoken against my will was nostalgic, it reminded me being shaken awake on school days as a child. I opened my eyes cautiously, half prepared to be blinded by the overhead light of my childhood bedroom.
