The Portrait
Part I: The Antique Shop Late autumn had filled the quaint town of Derry, Maine, with the colors of rust and gold. A crisp chill clung to the air, and the scent of woodsmoke and decay lingered like a half-forgotten memory. On a desolate street lined with abandoned antique shops, there stood one whose dusty window still beckoned passersby with a single handwritten sign: “Closing Sale. Everything Must Go.”

Ludicrous limerick
Sometime in the distant past, in a little town in the wide open of Britain, there was a man named Timothy who wanted to compose senseless limericks. Timothy was known for his astute pleasantry and his capacity to make individuals snicker with his ridiculous rhymes. He went through the greater part of his days sitting under an enormous oak tree in the town square, writing ceaselessly in his note pad.

The Mirror from Beyond
The mirror showed a reflection that wasn't my ownIt was as if I was looking at a different version of myself, one that was slightly off-kilter. The reflection stared back at me with empty eyes, its expression a twisted mockery of my own. I tried to turn away, but something held me in place.

Rorrim-Rorrim
The mirror showed a reflection that wasn’t my own. I thought my mind was playing tricks on me. But I definitely saw it. I had moved into my adopted, paternal great-grandfather’s Victorian-era home just after the dawn of the new year. He died a few days after Christmas. Since he had been a hoarder for most of his life after serving in the war, someone in the family needed to move in to take on the full-time job of managing the mess that oozed out of the decrepit and lonely house. Being in between jobs myself, I volunteered.
