‘The Menu’ Movie Review
The Menu is a new horror-comedy from, I kid you not, two writers for The Onion. Hawthorne is a an exclusive, upscale restaurant run by the tyrannical, yet charismatic Chef Julian Slowik (Ralph Fiennes). Young couple Tyler (Nicholas Hoult) and Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy) are among the guests for a very special menu, which also includes food critic Lillian (Janet McTeer) and her editor Ted (Paul Adelstein), wealthy older couple Richard (Reed Birney) and Anne (Judith Light), a trio of young entrepreneurs (Rob Yang, Arturo Castro, Mark St. Cyr), and movie star-turned-amateur foodie George Diaz (John Leguizamo) and his assistant Felicity (Aimee Carrero). But Chef Slowik has more nefarious plans for his guests this time, and it doesn’t take long for Margot to sense danger.

The Fate of the Final Girl
With Jamie Lee Curtis taking her final bow as the iconic Laurie Strode in the closure of the long-running Halloween franchise, I decided that it would be a good time to take “Final Girls” by Riley Sager off of the shelf as a tribute to the woman who revolutionized and embodied the essence of strength and resiliency that it takes to be a final girl. Often attributed as the first real example of a final girl, Curtis’ character Laurie Strode was the sole survivor of Michael Myers’ attacks that fateful Halloween night, but Curtis’ character highlighted the emotional, physical, and psychological burden that can come from being a survivor.

A Touching Gift
Glen had always been a bit of a ladies' man. Ever since his first girlfriend, he'd been a firm believer in the "love um and leave um" school of thought. In high school, it caused some trouble. Glen was the handsome football player who went through women like water, and it seemed he was always in the middle of some drama. In a way, Glen guessed he fed off it, loving the attention he got from being at the center of such controversy. As he got older, Glen found similar conquests out in the real world. The car lot he worked at held a bevy of pretty clients, pretty secretaries, and lovely bosses who became far less authoritarian once the bedroom door was shut.

Reed Alexander's Horror Review of 'The Wind' (2018)
Ho-lee-crap this movie was fucking forgettable. I seriously mean that. I just watched it two days ago and I can barely remember fuck-all about it. All I can really remember is how much it irritated me. There was very little to like about this movie. I mean, the premise and the plot were fine, it was just a poor execution with a particularly weak ending. And the ending is pretty much my all-time most hated trope next to 'Black Guy Dies First.' If you know my reviews well enough, that's actually a bit of a spoiler but I'll talk about this later in the actual spoilers.

PROJECT: Oracle
We drove up the snowy, winding road towards the cozy A-frame cabin. The drive hadn’t been terrible, apart from my growing worry that our tired BMW wouldn’t be able to power through the declining weather. I hadn’t been on a vacation in years and couldn’t wait to unwind — I knew Sally and Ember had been excited, too. I opened my car door to a rush of swirling chill and snowy confetti bursting through with the cold, crisp air that stung my nostrils as I deeply inhaled. I stood up and dramatically stretched my arms out wide with another loud inhale, my body rejuvenated from the chilled nectar of unbothered mountain air.

The Revenge of the Grandfather Clock
We drove up the snowy, winding road, toward the cozy A-frame cabin. ‘Charlie will meet us there,’ Lori thought, as she steered the SUV into a portal entrance between two mountain peaks just in time to see the rain from the brewing storm begin to crystallize and form snowflakes. She watched the snowflakes fall and settle atop her windshield. Soon after, more flakes breezed by the beams and girders within the dark tunnel and crossed in front of the glowing yellow lights that were mounted above; which, happened to be rather dim and sparse, and she thought that the lights were particularly unhelpful as she navigated. But, the light of the fading day, at the exit point — out the opposite end — was a much better guide. She sped onwards. There were three tunnels in succession, she recalled, from previous road trips to this cabin. 'We’re almost there,' she whispered. And at that very moment, the radio went static in the tunnel.

Kin is Kin
The wind blew through the trees, Jimmy watched as the leaves shimmered in the afternoon light. He stood up, stretching his back, shoveling was not as easy as he thought, he stared into the hole, slowly getting deeper and deeper as his father continued to shovel. He watched the pile of dirt beside the hole get bigger and bigger, so big that the dirt would slide down bit by bit. He looked at his father, smiling, his sweat covered brow in a sullen expression. Jimmy continued to help as best as a five year old could.

Journal of a Mad Writer
Travis pulled up in front of the old cabin, ready to prepare everything for the coming weekend. It would be nice to have the rental property again. It had been closed for the last eight months as the police combed over every square foot for evidence. Travis grimaced as he thought of it, cursing his luck at being out all that cash. He'd had a funny feeling about that writer type, but he'd needed the money. It had been a slow season, and he needed to make it up before the snows came. Who could have known that the snow would come so early that year?

What lies beneath
We drove up the snowy, winding road towards the cozy A-frame cabin. I looked into the rear-view mirror as we curved around another corner. Toby was asleep in the back seat. The smile had been glued to his face from the moment we picked him up from school. Katie was sitting beside me, talking non-stop about the latest work drama. I tried to follow along and nod at the right times, but most of my focus was on ensuring we stayed on the road. The cabin had been in the family for generations, it felt like my true home. But I wasn’t exactly familiar with the drive.
