Memory Lane with the 'Insidious' Franchise
There is something about the 'Insidious' franchise that is ridiculously entertaining even though they can be extreme and over-the-top a lot of the time. However, I can honestly say that I’m guilty of not only seeing all the 'Insidious' films in theaters, but purchasing them as well. For example, I will be seeing Insidious: The Last Key in theaters and, once it’s out on DVD, I will be buying it as well. Now, because the new 'Insidious' has recently been released, I thought I’d go down memory lane when it comes to the franchise. I wanted to start with the beginning, the original, the first 'Insidious' film.

'Insidious: The Last Key'
The first Insidious movie back in 2011 was, to me, at least, one of the scariest films I had seen in quiet some time. What I found interesting enough about that movie was, when I went back to see it a second time, it was an even scarier experience because I saw it in a far better screen with better sound, and I found new things I had missed the first time around. My friends and I left that screening and couldn't sleep that night, it scared us that badly. I know there are silly moments in the film, and sometimes the acting may not the be the greatest in cinema, but director James Wan and his partner in crime, Leigh Whannell, who also wrote and acted in the film, brought together their favorite things about horror films, especially ghosts stories, and gave us one to remember—of course, until James Wan directed the far superior The Conjuring, which is still, by my opinion, one of the finest horror films that has come out in the last decade.

The Top 10 Best Horror Remakes

Movie Review: 'Insidious: The Last Key'
I’ve finally figured out why I love the 'Insidious' franchise so much. It’s not that the franchise is all that better than most modern horror films, it still has the clumsiness and exposition laden dialogue and awkward humor that mark most low budget horror of the era. But, what 'Insidious' has over other modern horror movies is great characters. Genuinely likable, funny, and strong characters that we can really root for, especially Lyn Shaye’s brilliant Elise Rainier.
