Balm of Briar
The sterile white walls of the chapel seemed to go on forever as Anne’s eyes studied them, finding vaguely familiar shapes in the stucco. A cloud, a rose, and the devil himself were hidden in plain sight amongst the congregation. Anne, entranced by the shapes of the stucco, dared not to make eye contact with those around her. Anytime Anne managed to make eye contact with the members sat beside her, she could sense the weight of their scorn. The hiss in every ‘Amen’ whispered by the congregation throughout the sermon made her recoil even more behind a tattered hymn book. Avoiding eye contact with the members, her eyes searched for a new focal point other than her father leading the sermon and the stiff elderly Sunday Christians wrapped in silk and wool. Anne pulled at the loose stitching of her shapeless beige dress while she became entranced with the dust that glittered as it swirled in the ethereal chapel light. How can a simple thing such as dust be so beautiful? Anne wondered.

Unfortunate Events of an Invasion
I’ve never been a fan of how dark it gets by 4 o’clock in the afternoon. That’s how the days have recently started to come out to. Strange, since it’s not wintertime anymore but the air still has a chill in it while the sky gets a highlighter yellow before it just completely goes dark.

Imagine
Today began just like any other day, my alarm went off at 7am I showered, brushed me teeth threw on my clothes with just enough time to spare to tell my mother good morning, steal my brothers bacon off his plate and run out the door to catch my bus. The bus ride wasn’t unusual I sat alone in the back, which is what I’ve always preferred I watched everyone laugh and joke and thought to myself ; what is everyone so happy about. I look down at my tattered clothes and my cheap sneakers and I wondered for a moment what it would be like to have such nice, new things. To be “ popular” but I let the thought pass as quickly as it came I just wasn’t like the other kids in my school and well I was perfectly happy being alone most of the time anyway. Besides I did have something none of the other girls had, my most prized possession, a beautiful gold heart shaped locket that my father gave me when I was just a young girl, inside a picture of the two of us. Whenever I felt alone I’d look inside and imagine what fun we’d have when I get to go see him in California this summer. Little did I know then. This was definitely not going to be like any other day. I get to my first period class without a minute to spare and mrs. Stewart is beginning with a recap of the weeks lesson in the ongoing war in Syria with one catch, pop quiz this morning. I’ve never been that good at tests I always get to anxious. I can already feel my palms begin to sweat. I excuse myself to go to the bathroom to try to calm my nerves. As I enter the restroom I’m relieved to find I’m alone. I turn on the faucet and begin to splash the cool water on my skin.

Like Hearts, Like Souls
She didn't trust a single one of these people, and she could tell they didn't trust her. They'd only banded together to make it through the city forest in one piece, but she'd be surprised if they made it with their lives. Even though they couldn't see them, she could sense the creatures lurking around every shadowy corner, patiently waiting.

Wendigo
“The unidentified animals which appeared to originate from northern Wisconsin, have now been spotted all over the country and parts of Canada. Remain cautious when outside, and avoid wooded areas at all costs; there are thousands dead from encounters with these animals and they herd around forests. Although they do travel and have been spotted in cities. Researchers have yet to study the creatures, and no photographs of them have surfaced. The national guard may be brought into places most affected, researchers are working on medications that protect the infected. Though progress is slow because there is not much information on these creatures. However, what we do know is they are gray humanoids, between 7 and 8 feet tall, and extremely thin. Reports from cases where a person suffered a scratch or bite say they become pale and sickly, and soon they start to attack and eat whoever is nearby. Again, we warn against-”

The Bone Fairy
Everyone has heard of the ‘Tooth Fairy’. Whenever you would lose a tooth when you were younger and so you would place it under your pillow and eagerly await the dollar you would find under your pillow the next morning, only to be disappointed that when you found out that the Tooth Fairy gave your rich friend more money than you. But at least the tooth fairy works on the system of give and take. She takes your lost tooth and in exchange she gives you some money. The Bone Fairy doesn’t work like this, however. The Bone Fairy just takes.

Live at Five
Live at Five a Trail of Blood and Gore ... In the back part of the park. The part where there was no trail. The full moon shined through the trees in dusty shafts to an agonized figure below. Logan screamed out in pain as human features faded and wolf like ones became more pronounced. There was a canine snout, with wolf like ears, a tail and huge padded wolf feet, vicious claws and teeth. A howl in the park let all those foolish enough to be there after hours know, that tonight that might have been a bad idea.

Lesser No More
The crunching of small stones filled Ajax’s ears as his arm quivered to hold his lantern steady, his eyes struggling to pierce the wilderness around him. It was a cold night, his multiple layers of clothing providing no comfort from the biting winds. The men around him provided no comfort, already used to what this job entailed.
