fiction
Horror fiction that delivers on its promise to scare, startle, frighten and unsettle. These stories are fake, but the shivers down your spine won't be.
The Ghost Who Saved Me
I never believed in ghosts. I always thought that anyone who said that they had seen a ghost was talking nonsense. I was a firm believer that they were all in a person's imagination or that they had seen one too many horror films. Ghosts were pure fiction. I even laughed at my best friend when she told me about the ghost which would knock on her bedroom door every night, until the vicar came to bless her house. It was all mumbo jumbo. This was until around a year ago, it was then that I would see for myself that ghosts are real. Don't believe me? Well let me tell you about the night which I will never forget.

The Climb
After graduating from university, my boyfriend and I started sharing this attic apartment in an old house. Rent wasn't too bad and, while we were a little too far from downtown, at least we had our own bathroom and even a tiny kitchen. Most importantly, the house had its own washing machine and dryer, and since Rafael and I were both tired of dragging our laundry baskets to the nearest laundromat, that actually influenced our decision to move in.

Hale County
Prologue A brilliant flash of light lit up the small iron fenced cemetery, followed by a loud clap of thunder. Large drops of rain began pelting the century old headstones. The wrought-iron fencing leaned heavily in places, the soggy earth no longer able to support the cumbersome weight of the iron barrier after a half century of neglect. It was the oldest cemetery in Hale County. As the rain began falling harder, it was no doubt the last place anyone wanted to be, especially Sheriff Jake Hooks.

1997
Sandra limped into the building, shutting the door quietly behind her. Panting, she leaned against the door and listened. In the distance, she could hear shouting, growling, and groans, but the noises seemed to move away. Carefully, she eased off the door and checked for a lock. No luck. It was an exterior stairwell door and probably had to remain unlocked during business hours.

Swindled Spirit
Walking through the fog and sometimes in complete darkness, he always wondered how he got here, there, or anywhere. His clothes never got old, and his pale skin was always yearning for warmth. It was all gone inside his head, his heart, and his lust completely absent. He didn’t know where he was going or what he did before, but only pictures flashed in his head sporadically in terms of years or if even that. He didn’t know how long a year was any more or anything that pertained to time.

Undying Love
02/26/19 “Why?” a gentle voice asked from behind me. I knew what was coming, but turned anyway. There was no point in fighting it. If I didn’t turn, the voice would only start sounding like it was everywhere, ringing in my ears, clanging through my head. So I turned. Everything around us is blacker than black, nothing exists but us. Her skin looked like it was glowing, her green eyes burning me where I stood. She looked at me, waiting for an answer. She stood so still, it couldn’t be natural. Her face was still the one I loved, but different— more angular, even more beautiful, knowing, dangerous. Dead. She was dead. But here she was in front of me.

In the Woods
09/29/19 Simon stared at Gabby in horror. They’d left earlier that morning to go hiking. They were several miles in when Gabby pulled her hunting knife that her dad gave her a few years back out of her backpack. They’d been going out for a year and a half and went hiking all the time, so he’d seen it before. She liked to carry it at almost all times because she had a tendency of being extremely paranoid. He’d gotten used to it.
