I made the most out of what I had back when I was a boy. We wasn’t very rich and cancer overtook Mama when I was only eight. Daddy and I lived with her shadow in that same little childhood house on the lake. I miss her like crazy, especially then. She used to clean the house real neat for the family, make us grits and bacon on weekend mornings, and she even tended a pretty little garden. That same house wasn’t even recognizable by the time I was eleven. We was in debt from her chemo, Daddy was one of those old-fashioned types that didn’t know how to clean or cook nothing, and our house got broken into and robbed all the time. Still, he didn’t let me see none of that anger he had. At least not first hand.

However, it never occurred to Cindy that all of her vile tasks for her respective clients, would ever have to be experienced in her own life because she just did what she was paid to do. The Old Orphic Lake
It was a rare thing for a visitor to step foot within the quaint town of Old Orphic. Long forgotten was the actual name that the town was founded with so many years ago. The locals had never preferred nor cared about it, just continued to call it after the lake in which their lives surrounded. If you asked anyone how to get there, they might look at you like you were crazy; tell you that it didn’t exist. Before long, you would start to believe it too. For the people that do find it, some might just be redirected and not really remember where they were going. Others may never be seen again by the outside world, but no one ever comes looking. Because Old Orphic doesn’t really exist- so neither do they.

The lake was quiet at this time of night. Except for the light chatter that consumed the group. Originally it had been Alex’s idea to go and relax on the lake and he managed to get everyone on board. Hayley was the skeptic paranoid one of the group so she initially protested when Alex suggested they go to the Lake of death. This wasn’t the real name but it had earned that nickname due to all the drownings and disappearances. Many legends had been constructed but the most common was of Annett Smith.

Turns out she didn’t have a choice. He left her, after five years, six months, and fourteen days together. He left her so he could find himself and really as it turns out he left her so he could find someone else.
