The Haunt that Broke Me
I used to work at a haunted house many years ago. It was a local haunt and very popular with adults and children alike. Unfortunately, it was shut down due to an incident and I have never spoken about it until today. Here is my story of the haunted house that broke me.

A Forbidden Place
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The old trail leading to it was an old reminder of the days when the fur trade was still a way of life. Those days are long gone but the warnings of that area are still very much shared by my family and anyone living in our community.

Wooded Candle
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Nobody was paying attention to it. The candle was glowing a flourescent orange. With whisps of amber that floated through a ghostly pale ember. No-one was prepared for it, the ghastly forethought that was to become, a scattered pitchfork of scarred tactics.

1931
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. It didn’t really matter that the candle was burning because the cabin was so remote it wasn’t likely to be seen by any human anyway. Her being there was safe and secret from the rest of the world.

Adventures of Blair Bates
It was a dark, stormy and gloomy Friday night when all of a sudden… BOOM! CRASH! The lightning strikes a tree almost instantly crashing into Blair Bates, who was sleeping nearby. She was a quiet girl who minded to herself most of the time, but tonight would change her life. She had only dreamt of such scary places before but now it seemed like her nightmares would become a reality. Suddenly Blair felt as if someone was trying to wake her; she jumped to her feet and ran out down the dark spooky path into the woods. As she walked deeper into the woods, a cold gust of wind blew around her. “Is it? No, it couldn’t be?” She knew that something or someone was following in her footsteps. What? Who? How? The only thing Blair understood was this terrifying feeling of being abandoned, useless and haunted. Running in fear Blair went as fast as she could down the creepy dirt road in the woods. As she’s running Blair can see dark shadows of what seems to be people from her past. She thought to herself, how could this be? Intrigued by the shadows, she decides to go investigate and get some answers as to all of what was happening. As she approached the figure in the dark, she smelled a dead animal. “What is that god awful smell?” Investigation mode on in her brain, Blair spots out the corner of her eye a dead deer laying next to a dead hunter. Scared out of her mind she decides to turn back and try to find her way back home. As she runs back down the dirt road the dark shadow appears in front of Blair knocking her to the ground once more. Feeling a little defeated in her plan, she gets up and starts to approach the figure. Feeling scared, upset, and a little courageous, Blair starts to talk with the unknown figure. As she gets close, Blair starts to see some familiar things about this shadow. Starting to question and look around, she sees that it’s the ghost of her dead friend Ryder Luther, who died 3 years prior to this encounter. Ryder seems to be whispering to her, but she can’t make out the sounds all the way. Feeling nervous Blair asks “what are you doing here?” “Do you have unfinished business or are you here to take me with you?” Ryder doesn’t answer. Again Blair loudly asks “tell me why you are here?!” Again no answer from her dead friend. Realizing she isn’t getting anywhere with him, Blair decides to leave, not realizing that he is following her down the path. Blair walks down a long, dark narrow path to a fork in the road. Suddenly, she sees a sign in the middle of the two roads, with a single light above it. “Spooky, this seems like something you would see in a horror movie.” The right path is Frotar Ash Lane and the left path is Amber Brooke Avenue, which way should I take.” She sits down by the sign to contemplate on the big decision, right or left. As she sits down to think of which path to take, Ryder finally starts to talk with her. All he says to her is “you know why I’m dead, you should have done something.” Confused by the ghost's words, Blair tries to remember what happened all those years ago. Out of nowhere she looks up to speak, but the figure of Ryder has disappeared. Going back to thinking of which path to take, Blair finally figured out she must go back to the scene of the crime. ‘I know Frotar Ash Lane leads to my school, Weeping Mere High, which has been closed down for about 2 years.’ Blair here’s a faint sound in the distance of the right path. She couldn’t quite make out the sound or voice, but she did hear it say “The only reason you should go there is to admit what you did.” Slowly and carefully walking down the path, Blair starts to remember some of what happened. Thinking out loud she cries, “I know my friends and I messed up, but can’t you forgive us?”
