Cabin 810
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The teardrop shaped, small glowing flame danced to a rhythm of its own, as if a steady flow of wind claimed the surrounding space. Anything beyond the window was dark and uninviting, but I would be lying if I say it hadn’t piqued my interest. I laid awake snuggled beneath the covers, warm and content but unable to settle.

Thumbs McGhee
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Kevin was startled awake by the shimmering glow of the candle as he opened his eyes, his vision hazy, adjusting to the light. He'd never been drunk before, but he imagined this was what it would feel like. He had the vague feeling of being misplaced, waking up without knowing where he was.

That Phantom Touch
It should never be a sunny day when you're holding a funeral. Yet here they were, barely a cloud in the sky and the sticky heat of early autumn in Savannah. Not the weather to be wearing black, yet there she stood as the coffin descended.

Natal
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. I can’t say with any certainty whether my late night foray up the porch stairs and through the long doorless entrance was a matter of mere curiosity or perhaps an ugly and well-hidden desire that I, too, might be swallowed up by the house like so many others had allegedly been. I wasn’t even entirely sure that the light in the window was anything more than an oddity at first, something curious yet entirely mundane like late season fireflies or a clinging patch of bioluminescent fungus.

Lurking Shadows
Now available in print in Malice from Dragon Soul Press and Memento Mori: Remember the Dead from Pulp Cult. *** The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. As the sun rose, the candle reached the end of its wick and fizzled out. The weather-stained door swung open, and a man emerged. He took a deep breath and smiled as the crisp autumn air worked its way through his lungs.

Little Boy Lost
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The light was very faint, flickering timidly, but the Boy extinguished it quickly, almost as soon as the tiny flame flared to life. He'd been very naughty to light the candle in the first place, but sometimes the night was so vast and dark, and he felt so small and alone. He wondered for the thousandth time where Father had gone and when he would return. He had no way to mark the passage of time but the rising and setting of the sun, and it seemed to him that a great many days had passed.

Her screams came from the meadow
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The family requested that the cherry-scented stick be lit a couple hours before their arrival, to soothe the slight whiff of varnish and paint that still lingered in the air.

Robin Woods
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window, as I got closer to get a glimpse of my reflection, the flame flickered, the candle disappeared into thin air and as I reached out to find the window, It just simply wasn’t there, I stung my hands with stinging nettles and with confusion, I backed away further down into the darkness of this illusion.

Lights Out
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. A fierce light, that only fatality could diminish. Daring souls visited the woods of terror for thrills, unaware of the horror that lay ahead. Over the years the infamous woods created an uproar of fear around the community. Especially around Halloween. Somehow, this fear engendered an enticing feeling that always seemed to lure people in. Numerous visitors had come to the woods and were never to be seen again. Stories tell it, that the spirits still roam the land living in an eternity of limbo. Unequivocally, the most dangerous and wicked things are those that can’t be seen with naked eyes. Rather, it is the things that are buried within the shadows. Warning: Don’t let the fire go out.
