The Way She Gets Her Dinner
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. We had seen the cabin from a distance on many a hike through the deep, marshy woods near Widow Lake. Our troopmaster let us explore the woods on our own and we relished the adventure beyond the safety of the campgrounds and the promise of discovery.

Whispers In The Walls
It’s a Thursday with a bright, glimmering, clear sky, its six o’clock in the Jameson residence and he walks in. “Buddy, I’m here, are you all set?” , says Michael, in his deeper, more manly voice. He was sweaty, his long brown hair ran down to his shoulders, wet, as he took of his size 38 coat. He was a 23 year old college student living with his younger brother, Philip. He’d just gotten back from his work shift, ready to relax. After a long day of packing cement, he definitely needed a shower.

Lucid
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Flickering, its light stretched away from the cabin and towards a creek nearby. The light slipped into the creek and together they rushed away, spitting and sputtering through the woods. Eventually, the woods gave away to a clearing, and the creek trickled to an end. But the candle’s light continued on, glowing and pulsing, until it met a lone dark road where a mother and child were driving by…

The Candle
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Charles thought that was odd considering his uncle had been dead for over a decade, as he looked over his shivering family. His wife Karly and their two kids, Daniel and Bethany, were huddled beneath their one survival blanket soaked to the core from the previous mishap of losing their kayak and scrambling to the shore in the rising current. The river was behind them quite a way now and gazing up the rolling hill, the cabin loomed ominously what seemed miles away, especially in the oppressive gloom of dusk and the frigidly pelting rain that had beset them.

False Sanctuary
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. He'd been traveling for days on end, dealing with sleepless nights relentlessly one after another. Fleeing from the darkness of the outside world, at least while surrounded by walls, he felt a sense of security no matter how false it was.

Good Directions
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. “Okay, enough of that,” Jenny stabbed at her car display screen as she buzzed down the empty road. It always amazed her how quickly it felt like the middle of nowhere after leaving the city, good fuckin way to get killed, she thought as the podcast lingered in her mind. True Crime podcasts were her thing, ‘nap, snacks, and true crime podcasts,’ she had it on a t-shirt, but she’d had an eerie feeling about this assignment since she was rushed into the car. Dan, the news station manager, had sprung this assignment on her last minute and the information he provided was vague. He had told her she was the first and only person he was giving this one to since he thought it could be breaking news. So Jenny had rushed from the station without going through her usual road trip/investigation prep routine. She had even forgotten her car phone charger which she had let Dan borrow earlier that day. She turned on the radio instead of continuing to make her skin crawl with the battery draining podcast.

‘I’m in the Walls’
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Of course, Sara would never have lit the candles had she known the true meaning of the ritual. All she wanted was to help her new friend. But that’s the trouble with children, they can be so trusting, so easy to trick.

The Cabin and the Outhouse
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. "Who would leave a candle burning in a empty cabin?" Monica said from the back seat. Eddie and Roman laughed and agreed with her statement. Eddie, Monica, and Roman planned to stay at the Hicks Road cabin for the Memorial Day weekend. Eddie and Roman were always fascinated by the history of the Hicks Road cabin. Their father would tell them the horror story of the Hicks Road cabin since they were little kids. Growing up, all of the neighbor kids would talk about it. Hicks Road was always known to be a creepy path to travel on, but the cabin itself was always hard to find. Some people believed it was a myth and very few people found the cabin, but they never lived to tell the tale.
