The Visitor
It was a long, hard weekend. I was just plain tired. First, it was teaching the children in the morning. Then, it was the things that my buddies and I had gone through with the dead. Why can't the dead stay dead? In any case, I am looking forward to a good night's well-deserved rest.

The Casket
It was a long day. Joe had worked many hours at his new job, not because he wanted to, but because he had to do so. He was a newlywed. His wife Susan, previously a widow, had a child with another on the way. He loved her so much. He had only known her a few weeks after her husband, Peter, died. They went out for lunch from time to time. It was during these lunch dates that they discovered a true affection for each other. After a period of mourning, they decided to see each other. They had only married a few weeks ago, exactly less than a year since Pete's death. Joe had worked as much overtime that he could possibly work. He hadn't had a day off in a few weeks. Already, he had seen one of the guys from his job drop dead due to fatigue. He couldn't afford to put Susan in danger of being a widow once again. He had to take it easy but now wasn't the time. He needed the money and he needed it now.

The Plan
It has been nearly a month since the guys and Irene had gone after a plethora of vampires. Much has happened since then. Jimmy and Irene exchanged their wedding vows. Mark decided to drop out of law school and pursue a career with the city's transit system. George and Marcel decided to share the cost of a new van. Together, they agreed that this new vehicle would be fully stocked with what they considered to be the best weaponry in their war against the supernatural. The gang got together one Saturday night to discuss what would eventually become a plan-book against any future attacks. Their last few battles nearly cost them their lives. They couldn't afford to take those risks again. Their foursome was now a fivesome. Irene demanded to be an active part of the team. Now, despite Jimmy's protests, she would be apart of their adventures. The meeting took exactly two hours. They argued and argued over how they would handle things in the event of the next war. After the meeting at George's house, they sat back and devoured pizza and soda courtesy of the remainder of Mark's former tuition money for law school. Next week, he would be working alongside George on the subway system. For now, it was time to party and enjoy each other's company.

A Letter Home
Dear Momma, I made it momma. The lighthouse that daddy made is still perfect. The light still burns but daddy ain’t here. They say he drowned last summer but no letter they sent out made it to the other shore. It’s an isolated island. Not much here. There is no more then ten people. Used to be more but when the sickness came they lost most of the men. And then there was the lost ship that they saw get taken down by pirates. That was the night the light went out. And the night daddy died. I’m gonna stay here mama. They need an extra hand. With no one coming to the island they don’t get no new recruits and most of the men here are dying. Tell Susan I miss her. I know she is no longer little but she will always be my baby sister. She must be what two or three by now. Time flies by fast mama. I know you were hoping I would bring daddy home but since he ain’t here someone has to do his post. Tell Jackson that he is the man of the house now. He is thirteen or fourteen now. He can take on the responsibility. Tell Tessa that I miss her tons and I send my love. And I hope that I can come home to her and baby Paul soon. He is gonna be walking by the time I get home and talking. He might even be in school. I only have time to write one letter so I will try to tell you how it works here quick. One man looks for the lanterns hanging on the ships' bow. He then shouts up which direction and how many lanterns to the runner. He runs and helps the six men up top to turn the light. But mama when you get this letter let someone know we are out of food and we don’t know how much longer we can last before we must leave. We are almost out of fuel for the light and it doesn’t hardly turn anymore. The roof is collapsing and I just can’t keep you thinking it’s safe here and it’s perfect. Most of the men are missing limbs from accidents and they are so discouraged that nothing can keep their spirits up. Daddy didn’t die in an accident. He jumped off the cliff. You have to know this mama. Not even my fiddle can keep their spirits up. Tell Tessa I might not make it back. And that she might have to raise our baby Paul on her own. And mama don’t tell Jackson to come for me. You need at least one man to help raise Susan. My brother must stay with you. No one can come here. The lighthouse can’t be kept up any longer. We must abandon it. I’m hoping I will be able to go home but only one ship comes to the island a year and it can only take one letter per man and two men who want to go home. It’s more a small boat then a ship. Most of the letters get washed overboard same with the men. I’m wishing and hoping that I will be able to come home and bring some money. Daddy is gone mama and soon I will be if I don’t get on the next boat. Hopefully if I don’t make it back you will at least get this letter. Mama I can’t deceive you, the men kill each other just to eat the flesh off their comrades bones. We are starving and no one has brought us food in a long time and the crops won’t grow in this rocky soil. The men have gone mad. There is no sickness. Please mama send help. Before I get ate. Save our souls.

The Funeral Home
The movie was quite enjoyable. The guys headed home for the evening. George was now driving his new van. Irene was with them. They stopped by a pool parlor for a quick game. When they were done, they headed home for good. They decided this time, not to go to the cemetery. They had enough of cemeteries for the evening. Besides, it was nearly two in the morning. There should be no activity anywhere.

My Friend Z, the Demon
It was 3 am. I had just gotten into bed after a night of scary movies and junk food I already regretted eating. A shower was of no interest to me at this time but I felt gross and hopped in away. The hot water burning my skin felt better than anything. I stayed there for awhile, enjoying the warmth until it was so hot in the restroom that I felt dizzy. I laughed at myself and got out slowly. Getting into my sweatpants and a cropped sweater I made my way to the bedroom, a towel still wrapped around my head holding the birds' nest that was my hair.

Prey For Me Pt. 5
The sun sliced into the night sky with the precision of a surgeon’s scalpel. Slowly, the clouds turned from a bruised purple to warm orange, as blades of golden light cut across the sky. Skeagan had slept fitfully through the night, after Aaliyah took him home. He was up before dawn, ready to move forward in the search for his brother. He watched the sky changing from his perch on the branch of a pine tree. The thick, green branches hid him from the mortals below.

An Unwelcome Guest
I have changed names to protect this family's privacy as requested. We will call them The Millers. Anna grew up on the Sunshine Coast, on what is still called Reed road back then, it was still largely wild. On the left side there were rows of freshly built houses. Behind those houses stood untouched forest entwined in rows of tall intrusive power lines. The other side of the street was much the same.

The Shriek. Top Story - March 2018.
I was sound asleep when I heard it. Underneath my blanket, my ears heightened to a state to where I could hear the drop of a pin a mile away. I wanted to get up but my body wouldn't allow me. I was stiff with fear. What could make such a sound? I couldn't imagine it out of a human or any wildlife nearby. It occurred again, only closer. My body came out of its stiffness, allowing me to get out of the bed. I dashed to the window, opening it all the way. I poked my body out and looked up and down the dark mountain beyond the trees. I waited a minute to hear the shriek again to detect its direction. It didn't come. I closed the window. Even though I didn't know what is was, I changed into my hunting gear and equipped myself with my rifle and handgun.
