In Two
Shawna was at the counter waiting for the barista to remake her drink. She was polite and honestly didn’t mind the mix-up, she understood what it was like to be the new guy. So, she waited patiently, not that she was in a rush to get back to her meeting with Susan. It took about three minutes for the latte to be remade, Shawna took her time walking up and taking it. Shawna let out a heavy sigh as she turned to walk back to her meeting.

The Town of Scarfolk
Each flyer from Scarfolk Council to the town reads at the top before each announcement: 'Scarfolk is a town in North West England that did not progress bey ond 1979. Instead, the entire decade of the 1970s loops ad infinitum. Here in Scarfolk, pagan rituals blend seamlessly with science; hauntology is a compulsory subject at school, and everyone must be in bed by 8pm because they are perpetually running a slight fever. "Visit Scarfolk today. Our number one priority is keeping rabies at bay." For more information please reread.'

Under Twin Suns
The soldiers would come for the girls in the morning. As they always had. Malaham explained this to Tallis while she sat in her sinking cot, her arms hugging her knees. The father sat in a chair beside his daughter as he spoke. His hands, clasped out in front of him, fidgeted nervously throughout. He told Tallis that the soldiers would come for her and he would do everything that he could to stop them.

Shipwrecked
Fool that I am, I thought sailing to the Andaman Islands by myself would be an awesome experience. Which it was until the storm of all storms hit me head on. Waves tossed my ship about like a duck in god's bathtub. I resigned myself to certain death. Then after what seemed like days, the storm just stopped. But my ship was for all practical purposes destroyed. The rudder and mast were gone. The motor wasn’t working. Nothing but the hull remained. I should have been killed. But as you might have realized, since I am telling this story, I survived. Although given my situation death might have been a mercy.

A Night Out
It was the last day of school and classes were finally over. Summer vacation has officially commenced. I completed my first year teaching 7th grade English at a local junior high school here in the South Bronx and I was ready to celebrate. After our last faculty meeting for the year concluded, a few coworkers suggested we all go out for happy hour at the nearby Tapa Hut. As we sat down and enjoyed our quick bites we had a chance to do some last minute catching up before we all went off our separate ways for the summer. Some people were spending time with their kids, some decided to do some traveling, I on the other hand will make this summer more of a staycation than a vacation. I just moved into my apartment and needed this time to get settled into the new place. I was just looking forward to having time off.

It’s a scorching sunny day in South Venice, Florida. Mandy is out with her friend Eric, in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. They’ve been friends since Sophomore year. They were part of, as they call it, “The Cool Group.” But they were actually just a bunch of nerds who read all the time or fished with Eric out on his boat.

Eric and Aki just look at each other in confusion. They used to be close until Lola finally told her what she did. To her. To their family. The civilians. She’s a vicious monster dressed up in a white coat.

They all are looking in the direction the sound came from. All of their eyes huge. Their hearts thumping out of their chests. Then suddenly they see a light out on the deck. Then all of the guys stood up and walked out towards the deck. “What are you all doing?!” Mandy yells. “Have you lost your minds?!” She continues screaming.
