Her Last Breath
Her Last Breath Fire and smoke filled the air as the buildings that once inhabited a small town fell to their own demise. Screams could be heard from miles away, and frantic hoofbeats were heard going far, far away from the town that once was. Nearby on a cliff, a woman sat near the edge with her knees to her chest and her head facing straight forward watching the terror that unfolded. Her green eyes were so still one might have thought she was a statue. Her curly dark brown hair waved back and forth as if it were saying goodbye to all that was. Try as she might, she couldn’t leave this spot even if she wanted. Frozen and numb she sat there for hours until the last flame was suffocated, and the last bit of night touched the sky. Once she realized there was nothing to go back to, she stood to her feet and walked away.

The clamorous thud aroused someone within, the door cracking open to see Jacob Bryant laid out on the narthex.

"Here you go dear." the little old lady across the hall said to me as I was moving in. In her hand is an old little black book. "This belonged to my husband Jeffery to keep track of his thoughts and things. Since he passed I figured another young man would appreciate it." I accepted the gift with a half-hearted smile and honestly felt a little weirded out. I tossed the book on the couch and continued with getting everything moved in and settled.

The Banshee of Ballymore
There is a rocking chair in a house in the seaside town of Ballymore. As the walls decay, the chair remains, vacant and yet moving. Sometimes just for a moment, a flash and then it is over, leaving anyone who saw it to wonder if it even happened at all. There are times, when the wind coming from the sea howls and seems to settle on that house and then perhaps, you might see her. The owner of the empty chair. She sits, in her white gown, rocking back and forth, combing long, thin and wet black hair with bony fingers and fixing dead eyes on a fireplace that no longer burns, moving the chair back and forth, back and forth with dirty feet. There are times, when the wind coming from the sea howls and then perhaps, you might hear her. As she rocks, as she combs, as the wind howls, she wails and the wails become the howling and the howling wind carries a name to the people of Ballymore and they know, that death is coming.
