Phone Update

"If you're ready to start your update please press download."

Sina pressed the download button as her phone screen turned black. As she waited for the minutes it would take for the phone to turn back on she heard a scream from the distance.

Sina looked up in confusion and ignored the scream thinking it was the tv. “HELP! HELP! STOP! GET AWAY FROM ME !”

Sina ran to her window to see where the screams were coming from. Looking outside to discover only the wind passing by but no one in her eyesight. Confused, she closed the window and walked back to the couch. As she picked up the remote to unmute the television she heard the scream again, only this time it sounded closer to her window.

Startled, Sina ran back to her window to see a woman outsider being chased by a robed individual. As she looked down she saw the robed figure grab her. Panicked, Sina ran to her phone to call 911 only to see that it was still updating.

“Come on, Come on!”, Sina yelled.

Her phone was only halfway through the update. Sina ran back to the window to tell the woman she called for help. As the woman looked up she was struck by a vehicle. Sina stared shocked to see the woman lifeless and snatched away into the adjacent woods. Sina gasped for air when she saw the faceless robed figure looking up at her. Terrified, she then ran to lock her windows and doors.

After she locked all the entranceways to her apartment she ran back to her phone again to check the status. Her phone had now been at 3/4 of the way down.

“Shit, Shit!”, she said hidden by the foot of her couch.

Sina frantically continued to watch her phone in silence when the power suddenly went out. Her iphone popped up with the messsge “You need to be connected to a power source for update to continue.” Sina heard menacing footsteps heading towards her door. She continued to stay silent as tears streamed down her eyes. After 20 seconds the power came back on and Sina took a relieving breath.

Suddenly, there was a loud inhuman knock on the door. Sina hesitantly walked to her peephole to see the faceless figure outside. She backed away frightened as the faceless figure lunged a sharp axe looking weapon through her door.

“AAHHH! Go away”, Sina shrieked. As the figure kept breaking down the door, Sina ran towards the couch to check her phone to see that it was nearly done. The black robed figure broke down the door and walked in slowly, breathing ungodly. Sian kept low towards the ground as to not to give away her location in her apartment.

“Sina it’s time for you to go!“ said the figure.

As the figure made its way around the apartment looking for her, Sina quietly tiptoed around the couch to the kitchen table to grab a knife. Not realizing she had dropped the remote on the ground earlier when she heard the screams the first time. suddenly, her television popped on showing a news clip of a woman killed by a driver who was texting. Sina looked at the screen to see the woman who was killed was the same woman she saw outside get hit by a car.

“Security footage catching the suspect get out of her convertible to check if the woman survived. Realizing that the woman was unresponsive the suspect fled the scene and has been identified to be Sina Matthews. She has been convicted of a previous hit and run a few years ago killing a child. Anyway whereabouts about the suspect please contact the Redeemer Police Department for any details.”, her television continued to remain on almost drawing Sina into its trance.

“I made peace with this a long time ago. Whoever you are, I AM NOT GOING WITH YOU!”, Sina screamed confidently.

Sina made a run for the couch and grabbed her phone to see that the phone update completed. As she proceeded to await the iphone welcome message, the robed figure appeared behind her in the phones screen reflection. Showing in the reflection was the face of the grim reaper . As she turned around she was stabbed in her heart and fell to her death dropping her phone.

“Way to go GR, on to the next one.”, the news reporter on the television said eerily.

Exiting the apartment with Sina’s lifeless body the iPhone finally showed the words :

Hello.

The Grim Reaper turned around and muttered, “I see you always rushed things. To bad you couldn't make your phone work.”
