Neighbours (Chapter 1)
10 PM I'm sitting in front of my window at home, celebrating my promotion with a glass of wine. I give it a sip, enjoying the view of my neighbours' Friday activities from my accustomed sitting place, facing my open window. I see a light coming from one of the many small terraces that decorate the façade of the building. I hear the voices of children, happily laughing and setting a table. I can only imagine their mom has cooked something extremely pleasant. Another light is turned on and this young boy enters, dressed all in sports. He's about to change, but soon notices me and awkwardly puts the blinds now, leaving the room protected by an opaque wall. Suddenly I see another light flicker, about a floor higher up. A tall man enters the room with a couple of boxes being carried by his long, strong arms. He lets them drop with a loud bang and sits down on top of one, checking his phone for about ten minutes. The rest of the complex seems to have gone to sleep. I should to. I have no reason to stay awake and watch my neighbours carry on with their day. No friends, no plans. Just me, as it has always been.

Gentle Breeze
The gentle breeze from the open window awakened her from a troubled sleep. Andrea looked over at her husband’s slumbering silhouette and wondered if he had suspected that she was the unknown assailant that every local television station had been prattling on about. She never meant to kill him. It all started out innocently enough. Well… not really innocent, per se. Hell, husbands and boyfriends go out looking for "strange" all the time. Why couldn't she get a little male companionship on the side? Andrea fought to suppress a shiver as she played back the whole sordid event in her mind.

I'm Pretty Sure My House Is Haunted
What I'm submitting now is true: None of what you are about to read is made up in any way. The house I live in is pretty old. I'm not sure how old, but it's old. Like, you'd expect grandparents to live there. I am a Wiccan, and I even believe in ghosts and some paranormal things, and I know not to mess with them. I don't even fuck around with a Ouija board, I avoid those like the damn plague.

Best Slasher Movies of All Time
Maybe there's something a little weird about really liking to watch people get hacked to bits on a big screen, but there's no denying the appeal of slasher movies. The success of the genre speaks for itself. The excitement, the fear, the pure evil of the thing... there's just nothing quite like sitting down with a bowl of popcorn and watching a bloodbath unfold (although if you're like me, that bowl of popcorn might end up hiding under a blanket with you).

Kidnapped by Killers
It was a cold November night and The Maestraums had just settled in for a peaceful night's rest. Everything was quiet, say for a few creaks and squeaks from the old house—but the Maestraums had gotten used to that. Their house had always been rather noisy, to say the least. The couple slept almost too soundly, completely unaware of the presence just outside of their room.

'The Strangers: Prey at Night'
I just finished watching The Strangers, starring Liv Tyler, on Netflix. My first and only time watching it was ten years ago. Back then, I had given it kind of low marks and hadn't seen it since. When I re-watched it, I still got the same feeling that it was too much of a classy, adult version of The Charles Manson Family taking over at Camp Crystal Lake on Friday the 13th. I've always been a huge Jason fan and in my opinion, Jason Voorhees and his mom would have run through them and taken the Camp back, of course! The Strangers leaves me with too many unanswered questions, at the end especially. I feel other horror films at least TRY to give clues away! I never got that "AHA" moment, there was no carrot dangling, and no "There's going to be a sequel" when it ended, so finding there was a sequel was a pleasant surprise for me.

When you think of low-budget horror, films like Paranormal Activity and Blair Witch Project probably pop into your mind. While these films certainly were produced on a budget, they managed to make a big splash in theaters.
