I Couldn't Believe This Happened to Me...
I've always been a little different from others when it came to sleeping. For most adults, sleep walking and sleep talking are not common, except for me. I do both every night, especially when my day has been extremely tiresome or stressful. Except for one night... my sleep habits got the best of me. A few nights previously, I wasn't able to sleep at all. I mean I tried my hardest to fall asleep, but I just couldn't. I would just stare at my ceiling until day came rolling around. I was exhausted after two nights of not being able to get a nights rest. Two days later, I was relieved. I was finally sleepy and knew I was able to go to sleep that night. Well I thought.. I felt my body release all the tension and stress, and relax after a long day. I felt good, I was finally home with my parents after two years, and nothing could have beat that. The lights were off and a beautiful full moon shined through the door. I closed my eyes and began to fall asleep. After about five minutes in, all of a sudden I heard a manly laugh come from the corner of the living room. It shocked me, but I just told myself, "I'm probably just hearing things, go back to sleep." I then closed my eyes, and about ten seconds later, I heard it again, it seemed to have grown louder. But this time I couldn't move, I was just able to open my eyes. I closed my eyes and opened them once more. I couldn't believe what I was staring at, a large black figure standing in the corner of the living room. I was in shock, I thought I could be having a nightmare, but it seemed all too real. It began to come closer and closer until it ran towards me. I tried to scream and get up, but I couldn't move an inch. Then I closed my eyes immediately and opened them once more. It disappeared. But the problem was I was not able to move still, I was terrified! I closed my eyes and began to pray. I knew if i started to pray, things would get better. As I was trying to finish my prayers, all of a sudden I felt this weight on my chest. I was frightened and stopped praying. I was scared to open my eyes and the weight began to get heavier and heavier by the second. I opened my eyes quick and the room seemed to be filled with light, an a old women was on top of me. She looked me straight in the eyes with a spiteful smirk. With long wet black hair, and abnormally pale skin. She began to scornfully laugh and her laughter started getting deeper and deeper. It was the same exact laugh I heard with the black figure in the corner. The elderly woman then put her hands around my neck. The air in my lungs was easily sucked out. I couldn't breathe at all and I thought I wasn't going to make it at all. All of a sudden, I heard my mom. She sounded like she was right in front of me, but all I could see was the wicked woman. My body began to shake as if someone was trying to wake me. I closed my eyes one last time, and finally woke up to my mom by my side. My mom told me she heard me gasping for air and decided to get me up fast. I hugged her and thanked her for waking me up. I couldn't believe what I went through. One of the most horrifying experiences any one could go through!

Treading Water
They are sleeping, just sleeping. This is what Llorona would tell herself when she closed her eyes; gaping mouth, black night, too tired to remember to forget. Her babies, her seven angels and all seven of her deadliest sins, had died peaceful, their skin unbroken, their mouths closed against any chance of a scream. They hadn’t struggled when she scooped them from their beds. They had not cried out when she submerged their impossibly small faces in the tub she had bathed them in just hours before. They had known it was not the boogeyman, a bruja coming to drag them away into the night. The skin that grabbed them smelled of vanilla and chili powder, the arms had smelled like their mother and so they snuggled closer to her chest, even as she drowned them. They never had the chance to wake up.

Asylum 42
Halloween. It's a time for treats, costumes, parties, and tricks. This time of year represents not only a change of seasons but a change for teenagers as well. Every year, around this time, a group of costume wearing trick-or-treaters grows up. Those that developed a love for the season crave more than a candy-filled pillowcase, they want to experience the darker side of the holiday. The spirits that are said to traverse the earth for this short period of time become these teens' most sought-after treat. Still children at heart, they heed not the warnings that accompany Halloween and stumble blindly into a tradition they never really understood.

Looking back on that ending: 'Gerald's Game' (2017)
We’re almost at Halloween and already our screens have been graced with a variety of horror films and shows. Receiving a rather high amount of critical praise is Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Hill House, the same Mike Flanagan that gifted us Gerald’s Game last year. Which, as the title of this article suggests, got me thinking about the response that the film received, specifically the divisive ten minutes at the end of the feature. Because of this, I watched it again, and noticed a few things I feel are worthy of writing up. It goes without saying, but I will say it anyway, you should probably not read on if you haven’t seen the film or read the Stephen King novel.

A Short Review of 'Halloween' (2018, David Gordon Green)
Tonight is the night he returned. That's right, Myers is back, for another bloody Halloween rampage. This new instalment of the Halloween saga was apparently pitched by a group of writers, Jeff Fradley, Danny McBride, and David Gordon Green, and from what I have read, all three are true lovers of John Carpenter's original classic. What they pitched was a direct sequel, taking place years after the original time setting and ignoring the other numerous sequels of the failed franchise. The pitch even got the approval of Carpenter himself, who also returned as the soundtrack composer. With this information already circulating, I immediately knew I had to see this film no matter what. I am most certainly glad I saw it. It exceeded and met all expectations.

Beating Transgressions
1. Jennifer was late for the party. She fumbled to find her car keys in the mess that was her overnight bag. It was filled with used tissues and empty vodka bottles bought from the cheap liquor store around the corner, she was drunk and it was time to leave.
