The Hollows
We tried to warn the King. He was new to our land, and while we had been humble in the take over, we were adamant that he leave the forest alone. He didn’t listen. We knew he couldn’t understand the consequences—couldn’t understand the capabilities nestled so peacefully between the leaves and bushes. At least, they used to be peaceful.

The Making of a Monster: Jason Voorhees. Top Story - October 2018.
Friday the 13th is arguably one of the most iconic, well-known horror franchises ever created. The centerpiece for this franchise is, of course, Jason Voorhees - the king of all psycho killers. Though he had a slow start, only appearing in flashbacks and hallucinations in the original Friday the 13th (1980), he quickly became an icon as he slashed his way through film after film (there are currently 12, but who knows if they'll make more). But how did Jason go from an innocent kid who drowned in a lake to the subject of a collective pop culture nightmare?

Halloween
Ahh Halloween, the one holiday where we go against what our parents teach us and take candy from strangers in the middle of the night. But most importantly, you get to dress up in silly costumes, and no one can judge you. I personally had quite the fun costumes. I was Snow White, homemade Super Why made with green swim goggles, and a witch three years in a row. Then I was a vampire, Katniss Everdeen, and some biker chick from a Disney movie. I also wore an all black angel outfit and went as a fallen angel. Then I was a zombie bride and finally, last year and this year I’m going as a unicorn. It’s the best costume because I literally get to wear a onesie all night. So as you can see, I had quite the collection of Halloween costumes.

Say Cheese
Researching personal history and heritage is important when trying to find out who you are. Every person that has come before us contributes to the person we are to become. Courtney knows all about family trees and where her family comes from. She was very close to her grandmother who had spent her whole life researching and documenting their family’s history. Courtney would spend hours listening to her grandma talk about distant relatives and their grand adventures. Even when her grandma would find scandal in the family line, she would look at Courtney and say, “every apple tree has a few rotten apples.”
