The sound of sirens echoed through the empty streets as Keeny approached the crime scene. A woman had been murdered, her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood on the pavement. Keeny's heart sank as he realized this was the third murder in as many weeks. He knew he had to find the killer before they struck again.
As he scanned the area, Kenny's eyes flicked up to see a man walking towards him. He was tall and broad-shouldered, with dark hair and piercing blue eyes. He had an air of confidence about him that seemed almost out of place in this dreary neighborhood.
"Excuse me, sir," Kenny said, stepping forward. "I'm looking for anyone who might have known the victim. Did you happen to see or hear anything last night?"
The man's expression remained neutral as he replied, "I'm sorry, I can't say that I did."
Kenny studied the man for a moment longer, something about him making him uneasy. "Do you mind if I ask your name?"
The man hesitated for a moment, then said, "Eric. Eric Reynolds."
Kenny jotted down the name in his notebook. "And do you live around here, Eric?"
Eric nodded. "Just down the street."
"Alright, thanks for your time," Kenny said, moving on to question the other neighbors.
But as he walked away, something about Eric stayed with him. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but there was something off about that man.
As the investigation continued, Kenny would discover just how right he was to be suspicious of Eric Reynolds.
Keeny starts digging deeper into the victim's life and discovers that Eric was a frequent visitor to her home. Some even suggest that they had a romantic relationship. This piques Keeny's interest and he tries to track down Eric to ask him about his relationship with the victim.
After some searching, Keeny finally locates Eric. Kenny knocked on Eric's door, and the man answered it with a polite smile. "Good afternoon, officer. What can I do for you?"
"I'm investigating the murder of Sarah Johnson, and I understand that you knew her quite well," Kenny said.
"Yes, Sarah was a friend of mine," Eric replied. "We used to hang out together sometimes. Is there anything I can help you with?"
Kenny raised an eyebrow. Eric's tone was too calm and collected for his liking. "I just want to know if you noticed anything unusual or suspicious about her behavior in the days leading up to her death."
Eric shook his head. "No, I can't say I did. Sarah was always cheerful and friendly with everyone. I don't think she had any enemies."
"I see," Kenny said, scribbling some notes in his notepad. "And you and Sarah, were you close?"
Eric hesitated for a moment before replying. "We were friends, yes. But nothing more than that."
Kenny narrowed his eyes. Something about Eric's tone seemed off. "Are you sure about that? Some people have been saying that you two were involved romantically."
Eric's smile faltered for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure. "I can assure you, officer, that Sarah and I were just friends. Nothing more."
Kenny wasn't convinced, but he didn't have any proof to the contrary. "Alright, well, if you think of anything else, please let me know. And if anyone else contacts you about Sarah's death, please inform me immediately."
"Of course, officer. I'll do everything I can to help," Eric said with a smile, as he closed the door.
For the next few days Kenny gave his everything to this case. Trying to find any leads that can give this case an acceleration.
Kenny had been going through old case files when he stumbled upon some that seemed eerily similar to the current case. As he dug deeper, he found that there were three other cases of women being killed in a similar manner. The similarities between the murders were striking: all of the victims were single women from middle-class families, and each had been killed in the same brutal manner, with their throats slit and their hearts ripped out. The murders had occurred at six-month intervals, like clockwork.
Kenny's heart sank as he realized that he was dealing with a serial killer. He knew that he had to act quickly before another victim was claimed. He worked tirelessly, poring over every detail of the cases and gathering evidence.
It was on a Sunday. Kenny was off duty. He went outside to take some fresh air. He went to his favorite bar. Kenny sat at the bar, nursing his drink and lost in thought. He couldn't help but reflect on his past and the mistakes he had made. His marriage had crumbled due to his financial troubles and he hadn't seen his kids in months. It was a constant source of pain for him.
As he sat there, lost in his thoughts, he suddenly caught sight of Eric entering the bar with a blonde woman. He couldn't quite make out her face, but something about her seemed familiar. He watched as they sat at a nearby table, laughing and having a good time. But Kenny couldn't shake the feeling that Eric was hiding something from her.
He decided to follow them discreetly, keeping his distance but trying to listen in on their conversation. They walked for about 10 minutes, occasionally stopping to take in the sights and sounds of the city. Kenny watched from a distance, trying to piece together what was going on.
As they turned a corner, Eric suddenly locked eyes with Kenny. It was as if he knew he was being followed. Eric and the blonde girl picked up their pace and quickly disappeared from view. Kenny was left standing there, feeling like he had missed something important. He knew he had to dig deeper into Eric's past to find out what was really going on.
The next day Kenny went to Eric’s house to ask him more questions. Kenny arrived at Eric's house and rang the doorbell. Eric opened the door and looked surprised to see a police officer standing in front of him.
"Good morning, Mr. Eric. Can I ask you a few questions?" Kenny said, with a calm tone.
"Sure, officer. Please come in." Eric stepped aside to let him in.
Kenny took a quick glance around the room and saw nothing out of the ordinary. He then started asking questions about Eric's whereabouts on the night Sarah was killed and how he knew her.
Eric answered all of Kenny's questions confidently and calmly, without showing any signs of nervousness or guilt. Kenny, however, noticed something interesting on the wall - a picture of Eric and an older woman.
"Who is this?" Kenny pointed at the photo.
"That's my late mother," Eric replied, his voice filled with emotion.
"Sorry for your loss. Do you mind if I ask how she died?"
"She had cancer."
“Oh, I see.”
Kenny felt a jolt of excitement. He had been trying to connect the dots, and this was a significant lead. He left Eric's house and immediately went back to the precinct to search for any murders in Russia in the past two years.
After a few hours of research, Kenny found a case that matched the pattern of the recent murders. A young woman was killed in the same manner as Sarah and the other victims. The location of the murder was close to St. Basil's Cathedral.
It was 2 and a half years ago. Exact same time pattern. Kenny knew something was off about it. Without thinking twice Kenny started to get ready for trip to Russia.
Kenny arrived in Moscow and was met by the Russian police at the airport. They took him to their headquarters where they exchanged information and briefed each other on the case.
Kenny told them about the murders in the US and the similarities between the victims. He also shared the information about the case. After digging for some time they got a name. Ivan Kuznetsov.
The Russian police were surprised and informed Kenny that Ivan Kuznetsov had been missing for 2 and a half years. They also revealed that he had a history of violence and was known to have a fascination with the human heart.
Kenny was shocked by the news and knew they had to act fast. The Russian police led him to a location where Ivan was hiding before he went missing.
As Kenny searched the building, he founds a hidden room behind a bookshelf. Inside, they showed evidence that confirmed Ivan was the killer. There were photos of the victims, their hearts and other organs carefully extracted from their bodies.
Kenny couldn't believe what he was seeing. He was horrified by the brutal nature of the crimes and saddened by the loss of innocent lives. As they gathered the evidence, Kenny knew they had enough to convict Ivan and bring justice to the victims and their families.
As they left the building, Kenny spoke to the Russian police, "I can't thank you enough for your help in solving this case. It's truly been an international effort. I only hope we can continue to work together in the future."
The Russian police replied, "We are glad to be of assistance. It is important for us to bring justice to those who have been wronged, no matter where they are from."
All of the sudden the chief called out Kenny. And gave him one last piece of information. It was a hospital report. The patient was Ivan. He was amazed after looking at the report. Ivan had a plastic surgery before disappearing. And the photo Kenny sees of Ivan after the surgery shock him. It was Eric. No doubt about it.
