At the onset, Dyer Lane may seem like a simple, tree-lined country road surrounded by barren fields, but that would be far from the truth. Instead, this seemingly quiet country road located just outside of Sacramento has seen its fair share of darkness over the years, including a witches' coven, secret KKK meetings, murders, and animal mutilation.
The result of its tainted history? Dyer Lane has become one of the most haunted streets in the state of California, causing terror and an immense amount of paranormal activity.
Some will say the following are nothing more than urban legends, while others will swear they're the truth. It's up to you to decide what to believe. Now, let's take a look back at the morbid history of one of the most haunted streets in California.
Back in the 1930s, the KKK held secret meetings here with at least one lynching, although it's conjectured that there were many more.
Also in the 1930s, a witches' coven used to meet out in one of the fields, casting their spells. One night, a group of four young guys decided to attack the witches. They ended up raping and killing two of them as the other witches fled.
Before dying, the witches put a curse on the boys. Within four months, all of the boys were dead. It is said that spirits from this horrific incident are some of the dead who still hang around Dyer Lane, and sometimes, late at night, you can hear the sound of the witches chanting.
In the 1950s, a police officer was in a fatal car crash on the street. Sometimes, a police car with its lights on is seen speeding down the road, only to suddenly disappear. It seems the officer believes he is still on duty and is patrolling to keep the area safe.
The 1960s brought a Satanic order known as Amdusias to the area, where at least one human sacrifice took place by slitting the victim's throat. Another death took place on Dyer Lane in the 1970s when a car ran into a tree. People have reported seeing the spirit of a man with a bloody face walking down the lane.
In the 1980s, a high school student was killed by a local gang, and in the 1990s, a man died on the road due to a gunshot wound. In the most recent times, the body of a woman was dumped near the road.
There have been other ghosts reported, such as a farmer who rides a tractor and a hitchhiking ghost. Other grim sites that have been seen here include mutilated animals and kittens hanging from a tree. There have even been reports of UFOs over the area.
I have been down the street a few times during the day, but I won't go at night. It isn't so much the fear of the ghosts, but of pranksters and trouble makers who sometimes find the street a location to cause some havoc. For example, sometimes an outline of a dead body is drawn on the road, and you can see evidence of gunshots in some of the signs.
In addition, there was an incident when a woman was driving down the street late at night when three cars surrounded her, then a person got out of one of the cars and kicked her taillight in.
Even if you don't believe in ghosts, the road can be quite intimidating at night. Dyer Lane has been featured on the news several times, and even the local sheriffs have posted information about it on Facebook.
The street is a favorite location for paranormal investigators who have had numerous results from apparitions, shadowy figures, and strange sounds, to EVPs, cars mysteriously dying, and more. What about you? Would you venture down Dyer Lane?
