Traditionally, Apple has observed a higher demand for Pro models compared to their vanilla counterparts. Each variant appeals to a distinct consumer segment in the market, based on our experience.

If you find yourself debating between the regular iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Pro, it is worth noting that Apple consistently introduces various differentiating features between their vanilla and Pro models, although these distinctions may vary from year to year.

This year, the vanilla model of the iPhone 15 has made notable strides in terms of specifications, drawing closer to the Pro variant than in previous iterations. Key improvements include a new display, the inclusion of the Dynamic Island, and the integration of a 48MP camera. However, it is imperative to examine the differences and similarities in detail to determine if the cost savings or additional expenditure on a brand-new iPhone is justified.

In terms of physical proportions, the vanilla iPhone 15 and the Pro model exhibit striking similarities. While the ordinary iPhone 15 is slightly taller and wider, the Pro compensates for this with a thicker profile. Nonetheless, both phones offer a remarkably similar in-hand experience.

In terms of weight, the iPhone 15 Pro surpasses its vanilla counterpart, weighing in at 187 grams compared to the vanilla model's 171 grams. Nonetheless, this discrepancy does not significantly impact user experience.

Apple has managed to decrease the weight of the Pro models by opting for a titanium frame rather than the stainless steel frame used in the past. In contrast, the vanilla iPhone 15 features an aluminum frame, which, although more malleable and susceptible to dents and scuffs, remains a high-quality material befitting a modern premium phone. Both variants sport a new chamfer around the middle frame, enhancing comfort and a more ergonomic grip.

While both iPhone models boast displays of the same size with flat panels, there is a subtle distinction in the actual shape of the top glass. On the iPhone 15 Pro, the glass extends over the middle frame and gently slopes down, contributing to a more contemporary and premium aesthetic. Conversely, the vanilla iPhone 15 has the glass tucking into the middle frame. This design distinction may be primarily appreciated when viewed in person.

Regarding the screen-to-body ratio, the iPhone 15 Pro outperforms the vanilla variant with an 88.2% ratio compared to 86.4%, thanks to its thinner display bezels.

In terms of telling the two phones apart, this year, it becomes slightly more challenging from the front as the Dynamic Island feature finally trickles down to the vanilla iPhone. However, the difference is immediately noticeable from the back due to the varying number of cameras.

The body colors serve as a clear distinction between the two models. Although the new titanium finishes on the Pro models are visually appealing, our personal preference lies with the vibrant and colorful finishes available for the iPhone 15 vanilla, including Black, Blue, Green, Yellow, and Pink.

In addition to the aforementioned frame differential, both phones feature a Corning-mage glass back and Ceramic Shield glass protection on the front. Moreover, both variants possess an IP68 ingress protection rating, ensuring survival in up to 30 minutes submerged in up to 6 meters of fresh water.
