A Gameshow? Pt.2

Chapter two, Ticket

I had just finished washing my mud-splattered strawberries, when I heard a knock on my front door, followed with the chiming of the door bell. I dried my hands and answered the door. A neatly sealed envelope sat on my Welcome Y’all! door mat.

It had a peculiar symbol on the front. I picked it up and, brought it in. Sitting on my couch, I ran my finger along the side. I popped the seal and, pulled out a small card with the same symbol on it. As I opened it a ticket( like for a concert) dropped into my lap.

I put down the card and inspected the ticket. It was bright yellow with neon pink and, blue print. It read:

YOU LUCKY WINNER OF THE GAMESHOW!

I turned it over expecting more information but all I found was the symbol. It’s a circle and in it is three triangles which overlay one another to make a fourth triangle in the center which, has any eye in the middle of it.

I opened the card and written in fantasy cursive was an address and a date. I looked it up on google maps and it showed a small business office with square shaped hedges around the front. It wasn’t even an hour away. The date was set for tomorrow at three.

I was excited! They chose me! But something was off. I turned on the news again to see if the advertisement was still on. It wasn’t. A man with spectacles and deep blonde hair sat at a news desk. He spoke,”..and for further calculations, the advertisement you witnessed a few hours ago, doesn’t exist. Our test have come out negative. The phone number, 000,000,4263 or,000,000, GAME is fake. Now back to the weather,”

Before I could watch anything else, I shut it off. I was worried as to who I was talking to,even as to how they located my address, and how was the envelope not wet from the rain?

But that slipped my mind when a great flash of light lit up the entire sky.soon after, thunder shook the house. I rush towards the window and watched as a tall pine tree on the mountain ridge came crashing down , smoke billowing from its charred interior. The excitement made me forget about all my worries and concerns.

I went back into the kitchen and finished putting the fruits and, vegetables away.

That night I ate a meal of cube cut steak with a homemade salad and a honey crisp pie for dessert. I lie on my back in my bed and listened to the dull drumming of the rain against my roof. It was calm laying there. Soon the crickets and the drops of water lulled me to sleep.

I felt like I would be peaceful forever. I wanted to feel peaceful forever.

But things change.

I would never, in all my life, be prepared for what would happen tomorrow at three.
