On this significant day, after a blissful journey spanning three decades, I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude and joy as I embrace the title of an American citizen. It's a moment that transcends my personal narrative—a story shaped by my parents' courage, sacrifices, and the pursuit of happiness in a foreign land.
Thirty years ago, my parents embarked on a journey that would redefine our family's destiny. The decision to leave our birth country wasn't taken lightly; it was fueled by the hope for a better life, the promise of opportunities that seemed elusive in our homeland. Today, as I stand on the threshold of a new chapter, I reflect on the struggles, the missed opportunities, and the resilience that brought me to this pivotal moment.
Becoming an American citizen isn't just a legal status for me; it's the end of a journey marked by hardships and unwavering determination. The struggles along the way have been numerous navigating a new culture, facing the challenges of being an immigrant, and the constant shadow of living without the legal privileges afforded to citizens. Yet, with each obstacle, I found strength and resilience, lessons carved into the fabric of my being.
One of the most touching reflections comes from the missed opportunities, especially in my pursuit of education. The dream of pursuing higher education was marred by the harsh reality of my undocumented status. Full-ride scholarships, promising pathways to knowledge and self-improvement, slipped away like grains of sand through my fingers. The ache of those lost opportunities is real, the longing for a chance to rewrite those chapters palpable. But in the grand scheme of things, I've come to realize that divine timing and purpose have a way of orchestrating a better narrative.
As I take my oath as an American citizen, I can't help but marvel at the intricacies of God's plan. The timing, the purpose—all woven into the tapestry of my life. What once seemed like missed chances were, in fact, steps on a path leading to this very moment. The struggles, the setbacks, and the resilience have sculpted a version of me ready to embrace the responsibilities and privileges that come with being a citizen.
Today, my heart swells with pride and anticipation. The struggles of the past are not forgotten, but they are overshadowed by the promise of better days ahead. I carry with me the lessons learned on this arduous journey—lessons of perseverance, faith, and the unwavering belief that the pursuit of happiness is not just a dream but a right.
I welcome the challenges that lie ahead with open arms, for I know that with this newfound citizenship comes the power to effect change, to contribute meaningfully to the country that has become my home. I express my gratitude not just for the legal recognition but for the growth, the transformation, and the resilience that have brought me to this day.
The journey was long, but today, I stand not just as an individual but as a testament to the enduring spirit of those who, like my parents, sought a better life and, in doing so, laid the foundation for a future filled with promise and possibility. I encourage you to live your life with believe, hope, and faith that all things are possible through God and his power. I wouldn’t stand here today expressing my gratitude if it wasn’t because of the strong believe in him. I leave you with this Quote from the Floria State Seminole head football coach. Hard work doesn’t guarantee success, but it absolutely will put you in a position to achieve it.
