Rejected at The Door

My Solar Experience

By Juan FCOPublished 2 years ago 3 min read

Every morning I wake up with the optimism that today will be a better day than yesterday. Filled with hope and faith I set out to knock 50 doors and hope that at least a handful of homeowners see the benefits and savings of Solar energy. Visualizing nothing but positive outcomes, I initiate my morning routine to be energized and uplifting.

My genuine intention is to help homeowners understand how solar works. Imagine a world where we can take advantage of the power of the sun and convert it into electricity to light up our homes - that's the magic of solar energy. Reality soon hits the moment I knock on my first door. Grumpy cop because he works the graveyard shifts and I woke him at 11am. Before I get three words out my mouth BOOM door is shut in my face. Contemplating if i should re knock the door, I decide to move on, telling myself what else can go wrong, maybe I should just go home, but what would my kids say, your home early dad. That's clearly not going to work therefore, I motivate myself to get through it and let the next door be the ONE. 30 minutes pass by and no one's home. My stomach is starting to make weird sounds, the feeling of hunger. Suddenly a car pulls up to a driveway, my perfect opportunity to do what I do best, share the magic of what solar can do for your property. Hi there home early, I won't take much of your time. I'm canvassing the area to see which homeowners can benefit from our energy saving program and from the looks of it this beautiful property sure you can reap the benefits. Homeowner: whatever you're selling I don't want it. I hesitate and second guess myself because I'm not here to sell but if the homeowner is getting a loan then i’m i selling ? oh god what do i say. The old trick agree. I understand mr homeowner but i'm not here to sell you on anything i just want to share the benefits and savings available to you as a homeowner and give you the opportunity to become a producer rather than a consumer of your energy. You have a lifetime contract with your utility company and you don't get anything in return. Allow me to show you what I can do for you and if it all makes financial sense then I would love to get you aboard. The Homeowner looks back and says, "You're really good, how about you grab a bag for me would you please, and moves on to say what do you need? Music to my ears as if I was in Aladdin movie. A picture of the most recent utility bill sir. That way I can generate an energy report.

Solar Energy Tax Credits are my personal favorite reason as to why homeowners should consider joining the program. Embracing solar power isn't just good for the environment - it's also good for your wallet! This is thanks to the financial incentives and tax credits available to homeowners who switch to solar energy. One notable incentive is the federal solar tax credit available in the United States. This handy benefit allows homeowners to deduct a whopping 30% of the cost of installing a solar power system from their federal taxes. That's right - it's a slice of the solar installation given back to you, making the transition to solar energy that much sweeter.
